Melanie slammed her hand against the desk, her voice cracking like a whip.
Quentin Ashford flinched and immediately started stammering out apologies.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Ms. Royce! I swear I didn't mean any harm... It's just that Ms. Aria is part of the Royce family too, right? She's not an outsider!"
"I'm just a grunt. I didn't dare offend a member of your family. When she demanded them, what else was I supposed to do but hand them over?"
"Please, Ms. Royce, be the bigger person and let this slide! I've given years of my life to the Royce Group. I promise this will never happen again, okay?"
Listening to Quentin throw out weak excuses and hollow promises, the cold curve of Melanie's smirk only deepened.
"It is exactly because you are a veteran employee that you should know the company protocols better than anyone."
"You didn't dare offend Aria, but you couldn't be bothered to call management for authorization? What, does Aria run the Royce Group now?"
Under Melanie's brutal interrogation, Quentin's face drained of color. He lost whatever remaining courage he had to meet her gaze.
"And let me correct you on one thing. Aria Royce isn't even employed by the Royce Group. She has absolutely no standing here. She is a complete outsider."
"Which means you, as the director of Plant No. 1, violated fundamental company regulations and handed over a highly classified Level-One trade secret to an unauthorized third party..."
"No, wait, Ms. Royce... Ms. Royce, I messed up..." Quentin's voice trembled with sheer panic.
He watched in terror as Melanie smoothly pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"Mr. Clarke? Effective immediately, Quentin Ashford is relieved of his duties as director of Plant No. 1. Process his termination paperwork. He's fired."
Ignoring Quentin's look of total disbelief, Melanie stood up and walked out of the plant without a single backward glance.
At the same time, Evelyn Hale was hard at work at Stellaris's private nursing home.
Although she had only been hired as an intern nurse, the standards here were incredibly brutal.
There had been grueling written exams and intense interviews. Evelyn had stayed up night after night cramming, terrified of being cut from the program.
This was her only chance to get close to Everett Kingsley.
To her, Everett was a ticking time bomb.
But now, something had happened to her contacts, and she was completely cut off.
Evelyn had spent days mentally preparing herself for this.
She knew exactly what she was planning—
Cold-blooded murder.
But she was out of options. She had her back against the wall.
Standing by the hallway window, staring blankly ahead, Evelyn's eyes were pitch black, devoid of any light or warmth.
Just then, a young woman wearing the same intern scrubs approached her.
"Evelyn, what are you spacing out for? I just finished changing the dressings for Everett in Room 3. What about you?"
