"I just finished my rounds too. Finally get a second to breathe," Evelyn replied, flashing the girl a dazzling, warm smile.
The nurse chatting with her was Sierra Vance, another intern who had just been hired.
Out of all the staff assigned to Everett's ward, Evelyn had immediately flagged Sierra as the perfect pawn.
Sierra was young and possessed an incredibly innocent, baby-faced look. With her big, watery eyes and timid demeanor, she resembled a helpless little rabbit.
She wasn't just sweet-looking; her personality was genuinely naive.
Evelyn had spent her first few days secretly observing the ward's dynamics.
Sierra was constantly bullied by the senior nurses. Any dirty, exhausting task that no one else wanted was immediately dumped on her.
They treated her like a personal servant, ordering her to buy their lunches and coffees, and conveniently "forgetting" to pay her back.
Yet Sierra never complained. She was gullible and eager to please—the kind of girl who would help count the money after someone sold her out.
Evelyn was absolutely certain that if she played the role of a protective friend, she could easily manipulate Sierra into doing the dirty work of killing Everett.
"Sierra, did Jonas and the others bully you again today? They still haven't paid you back for lunch from the other day, have they?" Evelyn asked, deliberately steering the conversation.
Sierra scratched the back of her head, offering a harmless, goofy smile.
"Oh, I actually forgot about that. They probably just forgot too!"
"Honestly... they aren't really bullying me. I'm just the new intern, so they're giving me extra tasks to help me build experience!"
Seeing Sierra's foolish optimism, Evelyn let out a heavy sigh, expertly twisting her features into a look of deep, sisterly sympathy.
"You are just way too nice. You're too innocent for your own good."
Evelyn gently poked Sierra's forehead.
Melanie was the COO of the Royce Group and a major partner with Stellaris. Adding to her recent explosive success at the Stellaris R&D seminar, Melanie's reputation in the company was currently untouchable.
Naturally, the staff at the Stellaris-owned nursing home treated Everett like absolute royalty.
Everett wasn't bedridden or physically disabled. Though cognitively impaired, his body was perfectly healthy, making him relatively easy to manage.
Aside from a daily check-up by the attending physician, he only received two routine IV nutrient drips a day.
Everett was placed in Room 3. Meanwhile, the patient next door in Room 2 suffered from severe diabetes and required massive, tightly scheduled doses of insulin.
Evelyn had mapped out the entire kill.
All she needed was a brief window to swap the diabetic patient's high-dose insulin with Everett's nutrient solution.
Then, she would let the clueless Sierra hook the lethal dose of insulin into Everett's veins. His blood sugar would instantly plummet to fatal levels.
