Seeing Melanie laugh, Everett frowned slightly, a flicker of worry crossing his eyes.
Could it be...
Would she actually reconcile with Dominic?
After all, they had known each other since childhood, were arranged to be married before they were even born, and had spent four years as husband and wife.
Everett never thought of Melanie as materialistic, but what woman could resist the blinding allure of a rock that size?
"Melanie, please just accept it. Treat it as a sign that you forgive me, okay? All our past misunderstandings were Evelyn's fault. Now that she's gone, and Lila is out of the picture, even if we can't be husband and wife, we can still be friends, right?"
Dominic begged pitifully, his words practically dripping with desperation.
Unfazed, Melanie shot him a look of pure disgust and stepped around him.
Seeing her refuse his gift, Dominic tried to shove the box into Everett's hands.
"Everett, help me out here. Give this to her for me, please?"
Everett hesitated, looking deeply uncomfortable, until Melanie's sharp, decisive voice cut through the air.
"Everett, haven't you played the pushover long enough?"
Startled, Everett immediately shoved Dominic away.
The velvet box slipped from Dominic's hands, clattering onto the pavement.
Melanie didn't even spare the diamond a passing glance as she and Everett marched away, disappearing from Dominic's sight.
Dominic bent down, snatched the ring off the ground, and snapped the box shut.
"Tsk..."
He clicked his tongue in annoyance.
The truth was, his father had forced him to buy the ring for Melanie.
Just as he had claimed, Evelyn and Lila were no longer obstacles. He was supposed to use this opportunity to clear the air and pull Melanie back into his orbit.
Doing so would lay the perfect foundation for him to steal the Royce Group's exclusive nutrient formula.
Aria Royce had made some slight progress, managing to sneak a few test samples of the formula out of the Royce Group's primary manufacturing plant.
However...
Whether they could actually reverse-engineer the unique formula from a few small batches was highly debatable.
His father had made it clear: if necessary, Dominic had to manipulate Melanie directly.
Shoving the box back into his pocket, Dominic's gaze darkened into something vicious and predatory.
He stood motionless, his gaze locked onto Melanie as she sat in the dining room below.
She was laughing.
Her smile was radiant, utterly carefree.
Philip watched as Preston's white-gloved hands slowly clenched into tight fists.
Even without Preston uttering a single word, Philip could feel an overwhelmingly toxic wave of possessiveness radiating off his boss.
"Mr. Whitmore, why are you standing out here? Please, come inside!"
One of their business partners stepped out, greeting Preston with enthusiastic hospitality.
Preston was only at the restaurant because several powerful executives had invited him to a business dinner.
One by one, the other executives emerged from the private room, practically begging Preston to join them.
If Preston didn't sit down, the entire dinner would be entirely pointless.
Yet, completely ignoring the billionaire executives hovering around him, Preston kept his gaze fixed on the ground floor, locked onto the only person who mattered.
A moment later, he turned and descended the staircase.
