However, before he could even lay a finger on her, several men in black suits materialized out of nowhere and pinned him back.
"Who the hell are you people?"
Dominic thrashed wildly, but he was vastly outnumbered.
Melanie watched his pathetic, frantic struggle and offered a nonchalant shrug.
"They're bodyguards. My boyfriend hired them specifically for me."
"Bodyguards?"
Dominic sneered in anger.
"Instead of wasting money on bodyguards, he should be saving up for your rent. Soon, all your family's properties and mansions are going to belong to Sabrina and Aria!"
Melanie tilted her head, thoroughly unimpressed by his threats.
The family's estates and mansions, she had zero interest in them anyway; she didn't even live in them.
"Didn't you know? I live at my boyfriend's place. We moved in together."
Hearing her announce her cohabitation with Preston so proudly turned Dominic's face green.
The word "slut" was on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed it down.
After all, they had been divorced for a while.
Even knowing she was no longer his, the thought of another man touching her made Dominic feel as if his personal property had been defiled.
"What are you so smug about? I highly doubt Preston can afford a place in Rosevale Heights!"
"I know for a fact you can't afford it."
Trading barbs and watching his expression sour further put Melanie in an exceptionally good mood.
With Preston's bodyguards keeping Dominic in check, she safely drove off, completely unbothered by her ex-husband's harassment.
However, Melanie didn't head straight to Rosevale Heights.
She went to the hospital.
Arriving at the ward, Melanie gently pushed the door open.
The moment their eyes met, Preston's dark, abyssal gaze instantly softened with affection.
He stood up and walked over to greet her.
"Busy day. You must be exhausted."
As Preston massaged her shoulders, a soothing warmth blossomed in her chest.
"You're the one who must be exhausted, taking care of him all day," she asked tenderly.
In truth, she had hired professional nurses and a therapist for Nathaniel.
She was just worried he would spiral into depression or overthink things out of boredom.
Despite the hired help, Preston had insisted on staying at the hospital to keep her father company.
Melanie felt she understood his reasoning, even if he never spelled it out.
