Gregory had been too intoxicated by their recent victories to think clearly. But now, it hit him—how could it have been so easy?
Standard pharmaceutical research was a grueling process filled with endless trial and error, constant refinements, and frustrating dead ends. Watching Melanie elegantly sip her champagne, the pit of dread in Gregory's chest widened into a massive sinkhole.
"Dominic, you handle things here. I need to head back to the office," Gregory muttered into his son's ear before turning to leave.
Before Dominic could even process his father's sudden departure, a group of people marched through the venue doors. They were all wearing official uniforms.
"Who are you?" the banquet organizers asked, stepping forward to intervene.
The man leading the uniformed group flashed his badge, his expression stern. "We are from the Federal Health & Drug Bureau."
The moment the FHDB was mentioned, the color drained from everyone's faces. The room fell into a tense, breathless silence. After all, practically everyone in attendance was involved in the pharmaceutical industry.
Gregory looked the most devastated. It seemed his worst fears had just materialized.
The FHDB agents bypassed the crowd and walked straight toward Aria.
Aria froze, her brows drawing together.
"Are you Aria Royce, the legal representative of Aria's Creative Studio?"
Aria pressed her lips into a thin line. "Yes, I am."
Sabrina Lowell did not follow Aria. She stayed behind, her venomous gaze locked onto Melanie.
By this point, Melanie had finished her champagne. The crystal chandelier cast a blinding, diamond-like reflection off the empty glass in her hand.
"Melanie!" Sabrina shrieked, shattering Melanie's serene moment.
Melanie slowly lowered her glass, her gaze drifting toward Sabrina's furious face with utter indifference.
"You'd better explain yourself! Are you the one pulling the strings?!"
