Melanie's eyes turned icy as she silently watched Sabrina flail her arms like an angry crab.
Sabrina had seen it clearly. When the FHDB agents stormed the venue, everyone panicked—except Melanie. She had remained perfectly composed, sipping her champagne as if the agents were invisible.
"Don't play dumb with me, you little bitch! Did you really think keeping your mouth shut would stop me from knowing you set this up?"
The moment the words left Sabrina's mouth, a sharp, ringing slap echoed across the massive banquet hall.
A handprint flared red on Sabrina's cheek, the burning sting registering a second later. Sabrina's hand trembled as she hovered it over her face, completely stunned.
The surrounding guests gasped in horror.
"You... you dared to hit me? I am your elder, and you dared to strike me?!" Sabrina looked at Melanie, utterly bewildered as the younger woman slowly lowered her hand.
Melanie's gaze remained glacial. There was not a shred of regret in her eyes, nor did she bother to rein in her predatory edge.
"A homewrecker who ruined someone else's marriage has no right to call herself an elder."
"What?"
"You have a filthy mouth, and you disrespected me. You got exactly what you deserved."
"You!" Sabrina was so furious she felt like her chest might explode. She wanted nothing more than to lunge forward and tear Melanie's face apart.
However, she knew how ruthless Melanie could be when pushed. Moreover, the guests tonight were crucial clients for her daughter's business. She could not afford to act like a deranged shrew in public.
Sabrina cleared her throat, forcing a semblance of composure. "I am your elder, so I will not lower myself to your level. I actually have class. An uneducated brat like you clearly never had a mother to teach you—"
Before she could finish her sentence, another resounding slap echoed through the room.
Melanie offered a careless smile. "Just walking around with my bodyguards. Is that a problem?"
"You still have money to hire bodyguards?" Sabrina pointed a trembling finger at her. "You squandered everything the Royce family had!"
"I squandered it?" Melanie's expression darkened, and Sabrina immediately flinched.
"Stealing the exclusive Genesis Serum, poaching our clients and market share, sabotaging our projects—that was all you and your precious daughter working in the shadows. If the Royce family is ruined, you two are the ones holding the matches."
Melanie slowly swept her gaze across the silent crowd. "Oh, right. And let's not forget the rest of you ungrateful, opportunistic cowards who call yourselves old friends of the Royce family."
Every guest harboring a guilty conscience instinctively took a step back, unable to meet Melanie's piercing gaze.
Having delivered her blows—both physical and verbal—Melanie turned on her heel and walked out, her bodyguards flanking her like royalty.
