"Whatever, let's not talk about it. I came here to unwind," Melanie said, stepping into the club. She scanned the room, her eyes lighting up. "Not bad! You've got a new batch of male hosts, and they're looking sharp..."

"Please! Stop sounding like some creepy old man," Daphne said, her lips twitching in amusement.

Melanie burst into laughter, and the two of them found a comfortable booth to sit down.

"Seriously though, aren't you worried your husband will get jealous of you coming here?"

"We aren't legally married yet, so he's not exactly my husband," Melanie waved it off.

"Ooh, sounds like someone is a little bitter. Do you want to marry Preston Whitmore?" Daphne had barely finished her teasing when Melanie flicked her on the forehead.

"If I didn't want to marry him, what have I been doing all this time? Just playing around?"

Daphne covered her mouth to hide a giggle. "With a drop-dead gorgeous guy like Preston, playing around would still be a win for you. But honestly, hasn't he shown any sign of proposing?"

The question silenced Melanie.

She remembered when her father, Nathaniel Royce, was in the hospital. He had wanted to meet Preston's family. She had brought it up to Preston, and he had agreed.
