"What are you calling him that for? Hurry up and call him 'honey'."
Melanie laughed at Daphne's eager meddling.
It was obvious that Preston's rescue tonight had won Daphne over completely.
Melanie didn't act coy. She took Preston's hand and playfully put on a sweet voice.
"Honey, thank you. You're the best!"
The expression on Preston's face softened like snow melting in the spring.
He gazed down at her, a starlit warmth in his eyes.
Standing beside them, Daphne felt like a massive third wheel.
In fact, everyone left in her club was a massive third wheel.
"Come on, drinks are on me tonight! Let's liven this place up. You guys did me a huge favor; I can't just let that go unrewarded."
Saying that, Daphne ordered her staff to open a few bottles of incredibly expensive liquor.
But Melanie quickly stopped her.
"It's already late. Preston and I have to work tomorrow. Plus, you had a scare tonight. You should go home and get some rest."
"But Melanie..."
"It's okay, Daphne..."
Melanie patted Daphne's shoulder.
"Don't feel like we did you this massive favor. This... was my mess to clean up in the first place."
As far as Melanie was concerned, Daphne was just collateral damage.
It was obvious that Shawn was targeting her.
Daphne had merely been dragged into it because of her, so who else was supposed to step up and fix it?
"And you have to keep this jewelry."
"I can't take this!"
Seeing Daphne's refusal, Melanie reasoned with her.
"You have to take it... because Shawn paid for all of this. Since he came and trashed your club, this jewelry should serve as his compensation to you."
