Returning to the scene years later to find a savior was practically the definition of looking for a needle in a haystack.
By the fourth day, Dominic was completely deflated.
He wanted to give up.
After the Hale family went bankrupt, his finances were tight. Wasting more time and money on this search simply wasn't worth the cost.
Exhausted from walking around the reserve, he dragged himself back to the hotel and ordered a glass of lemonade at the lobby cafe.
The cafe was part of the hotel—small, but uniquely designed with a very trendy, artisanal aesthetic.
Dominic sipped his lemonade and glanced around in boredom. His eyes were subconsciously drawn to a photo wall across from him.
"Hmm?"
He set his glass down and stood up.
He stared at the photo wall for a moment before stepping out of his booth and walking over to it.
On the wall, an old, faded photograph had caught his attention.
"Is this..."
Dominic hesitated but couldn't stop himself from reaching out and plucking the photo right off the wall.
Holding it closer, he could see it much more clearly.
The photo featured two young girls.
One looked slightly older than the other.
Because of that, she was easier to recognize.
"Is this Daphne?"
Dominic looked utterly bewildered.
One of the girls in the photo had dyed red hair, her facial features much more youthful than the Daphne of today.
But he could still tell it was her.
Even though her hair color was different, she wore it tied back in the same casual, low ponytail.
More importantly, the mole near the corner of her mouth made her easily identifiable.
Because he recognized Daphne, Dominic scrutinized the other girl in the photo even more closely.
