She Left, She Thrived, She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 68

Melanie froze.

She stared at Preston, whose face was cold and chiseled like an ice sculpture, with sharp, exquisite features.

His black eyes, as deep as tranquil pools, showed almost no trace of emotion.

Melanie sensed that Preston probably wasn’t angry.

“You’ve misunderstood. Tonight was mainly to celebrate the success of my project… Of course, there was a small part of me that hoped you might help me persuade Mr. Vellor.”

Melanie tilted her head, a sly smile playing on her lips as her eyes curved into crescents. She didn’t lie to Preston.

To ensure her plan proceeded smoothly, it was perfectly reasonable to leverage her landlord's connections.

Preston watched her face intently.

Melanie sat right in front of him, her smile a mix of playfulness and confident determination. Her face, reflected in his dark pupils, seemed to glow with beauty.

“You’ve misunderstood, too…”

Preston averted his gaze and looked down, continuing to eat.

“You don’t have to make all this food…”

After finishing his last bite, Preston stood up. As he cleared the dishes, he said in a very soft voice, as if afraid of being overheard, “You just have to ask, and I’ll help you.”

Before the words had fully settled, Preston turned and walked into the kitchen with the plates.

Melanie stared at his tall, straight back, a thought forming in her mind: Was he worried that I worked too hard making all this food?

Sitting cross-legged on her chair, Melanie stretched her neck to peer into the kitchen.

She was a little curious if Preston was embarrassed.

Ever since he said that, he hadn't let her see his face.

The next day, as soon as Melanie arrived at the office, Mr. Vellor approached her to sign the exclusive distribution contract.

After signing the contract, Melanie stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in her office and sent a text to Elias:

[We can begin what I told you about before.]

During her lunch break, Emilia finished her meal and headed to the breakroom.

In her six years at the Hale Group, she had a daily routine of buying a protein bar from the vending machine there after lunch for a snack.
