"Are you saying the AC in this room is broken?" an employee asked, immediately standing up.
"I'll go tell the front desk to send maintenance up. It's way too hot for this. We're going to roast alive," the man said, marching over to the door and pushing on the handle.
It didn't budge.
"Huh?" he muttered, looking confused.
He rattled the handle harder. Still locked.
It was common knowledge around Stellaris that the R&D meeting rooms were outfitted with an integrated security system. The doors could only be operated via the high-tech control panels mounted on both the inside and outside walls. Even the administrative staff knew that much.
The man reached for the internal control panel.
It was dead.
He tapped the screen. Nothing. He pressed the manual override buttons on the side. Still nothing. The screen remained pitch black, completely unresponsive.
It looked like... the power had been entirely cut.
"Manager Bennett..." the man called out nervously.
Elara finally snapped out of her triumphant daydream. She frowned, looking at the junior employee with clear annoyance. "Why are you loitering by the door instead of paying attention? Do you need a bathroom break?"
"No, ma'am..." the man replied, forcing an awkward smile and pointing at the dead screen. "Manager Bennett, I think the AC is broken. It's totally dead in here, and everyone is sweating. I was going to step out and grab maintenance, but... the door won't open."
"What?" Elara snapped, bolting out of her chair. "What do you mean the door won't open? It's a corporate office door!"
Refusing to believe him, Elara stormed over and aggressively jabbed at the control panel herself.
