Melanie gently pulled a fuming Regina out of the meeting room. Before Regina could unleash a torrent of complaints, Melanie leaned in and whispered something into her ear.
As Regina listened, her initial outrage melted away, replaced by a bright, vindictive gleam in her eyes. By the time Melanie pulled back, Regina was sporting a grin she couldn't hide.
Following Melanie's instructions, Regina gathered the R&D team leaders who were supposed to attend their meeting, collected their documents, and led the entire group straight out of Building A.
Back in the 12th-floor R&D meeting room, Elara had zero interest in actually conducting a meeting. Did they really need a massive boardroom lockdown to discuss gift baskets? Absolutely not.
But she had demanded it anyway. This was her first real opportunity since joining Stellaris to put Melanie Royce in her place, and she was going to savor every second of it.
Her ultimate goal in joining the company was to gather concrete evidence proving the Whitmore family was responsible for Melanie's mother's death. Once she had that, she could blow Melanie and Preston's relationship to pieces and watch them destroy each other. But that kind of sabotage took time and careful planning so Melanie wouldn't get suspicious.
In the meantime, she wasn't going to pass up a chance to humiliate Melanie. When she heard Melanie was coming in for the diabetes drug project, Elara knew she had to make an entrance.
The more Elara thought about it, the more euphoric she felt. On the outside, she maintained the poised, polished look of a high-level executive, but inside, she was vibrating with petty, vindictive glee. She was so wrapped up in her own victory that she completely failed to notice the subtle shift in the room's atmosphere.
The rest of the Administrative staff pushed forward with the meeting. Most of them had no idea about the bad blood between Elara and Melanie. They assumed this hostile takeover was just Elara asserting dominance over Regina, since Regina's hatred for nepotism was common knowledge.
