Preston didn't answer her question; he merely gazed at her in silence.
His deeply affectionate eyes seemed ready to drown her completely.
Melanie pulled back slightly, putting some distance between them.
He always looked at her like that, with a gaze full of intense longing.
But they were broken up now. She had to stay calm and absolutely not let things escalate into a moment of lost control.
Seeing her pull away, Preston lowered his eyes, unable to hide the disappointment in his heart.
"Don't tell me the medicine I made back then actually worked?"
As soon as Melanie finished speaking, Preston gave her a firm nod.
Even though that had to be the truth, Melanie still found it incredibly hard to believe.
She couldn't resist stepping close again, lifting her hands to cup his face.
"This face... it turns out it looks this good without the birthmark!"
Hearing her exclamation, Preston didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"You didn't even dare look closely at my face back then, did you?"
"Uh..."
Melanie's mouth twitched in tacit admission.
"Are you mad?"
Preston shook his head.
Why would he be mad!
"I'm too happy to be mad!"
"Happy about what? Happy that I didn't even look you straight in the eye back then?"
"Happy that you were willing to take me in."
Preston suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist.
Melanie panicked for a second, lost her balance, and ended up falling right onto his lap.
"You..."
Her face flushed completely red.
Their eyes met, and Preston's gaze was filled with a fiery, burning desire.
This look... she felt like she had seen it four years ago too.
Except back then, it had only been for a fleeting moment.
She had mistakenly thought she was seeing things, confusing his desire for hostility.
