Melanie was feeling a bit awkward too. As she scrambled off him, she noticed his ears were completely red.
"Sorry, I just wanted to help you lie down so you could sleep better," she explained honestly.
Without looking at her, he replied softly, "I'm the one who should be sorry..."
Lying down on the sofa, he turned his back to her.
She opened her mouth but decided not to say anything else.
What happened was just an accident; she wasn't hung up on it.
Naturally, she hoped he wouldn't overthink it either.
A little while later, assuming he was asleep, she went out to buy some supplies.
But he had been faking it the whole time. His eyes were squeezed shut, his brows furrowed, and his face and ears were burning hot.
Even when she returned, he still couldn't sleep.
Yet he stayed glued to the sofa, refusing to get up.
Because he had no idea what he was supposed to do if he got up.
He also didn't know exactly what she was doing.
He just felt that she was working on something incredibly important, deeply focused.
He shouldn't disturb her.
And so, the minutes and hours ticked by.
Eventually, he did fall asleep, and even had a wonderful dream.
Meanwhile, Melanie stayed up the entire night trying to formulate the ointment.
Early the next morning, Preston woke up.
"You're up early!"
Hearing her voice, he sat up on the sofa, looking at her with an expression that seemed to say:
So it wasn't a dream...
Melanie offered a sweet smile.
"What's wrong? Still half asleep? Or did you have a good dream? I saw you smiling."
Seeing her point to the corner of her mouth, he immediately dropped his head.
He must have smiled.
Because he did have a dream.
A beautiful dream.
"Come grab some breakfast!"
