When Melanie arrived at the office the next day, Evelyn had already taken over her office.
“Ms. Royce, I’ve packed up all your things for you. They’re all right here. From now on, you’re a Business Development Specialist, and specialists don’t get private offices…”
Listening to Emilia Hartwell’s passive-aggressive tone, Melanie glanced at the cardboard box on the floor. It was indeed filled with her belongings.
Emilia was Dominic’s secretary. She had tried to seduce him when she first started, but Dominic hadn’t been interested.
At the time, Melanie thought he was being faithful to her.
Now she knew the truth—
He was saving himself for Evelyn.
“Anyway, you barely came into the office before, so you don’t need such a big space. It’s better to give it to Evelyn. I have to say, Mr. Hale’s decision was incredibly wise.”
Emilia’s words were loaded, implying Melanie was just holding the position without doing any work.
It was true that Melanie hadn't come to the office often in the past.
Dominic had been the one to offer her the position of Director of Business Development; she hadn’t wanted it.
But since he’d offered, refusing would have been an insult.
Dominic’s company was a pre-marital asset, and Melanie had trusted him back then, so her role as director was mostly in name only.
She never interfered in the company’s day-to-day affairs.
Melanie remembered how Dominic used to praise her for being so supportive.
Now, it had become a weapon for Emilia to use against her.
Just then, Evelyn walked out of the director’s office.
It was the first time Melanie had seen Evelyn in professional attire.
It was a high-end designer brand, and the whole outfit must have cost at least several hundred thousand dollars.
Seeing Melanie staring at her clothes, Evelyn gave a contrived smile.
“Melanie, Dominic bought me this outfit as a welcome gift. It’s a bit pricey—with the shoes, it came to over six hundred and fifty thousand dollars. I hope you don’t mind.”
The comment made Emilia, who was standing nearby, practically drool with envy.
She could tell Evelyn’s outfit was expensive, a Prada, but she never imagined it would cost a jaw-dropping $650,000. That was more than what her boyfriend had paid for a house in a small town.
“Mr. Hale is so good to Evelyn. He really dotes on his sister!”
Emilia’s comment was clearly directed at Melanie.
Melanie could see that Emilia didn’t know about the illicit relationship between Evelyn and Dominic.
Otherwise, she wouldn't be directing all her jealousy at the legitimate wife.
