She Left, She Thrived, She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 7

Nathaniel was her own father.

But he never took her side.

Melanie was curious what his reaction would be when he eventually found out that Lila was the child of his handpicked, perfect son-in-law and another woman.

“Melanie, look, Dad has spoken. Please don’t be mad at me anymore, okay?”

As Dominic moved closer, Melanie sidestepped him.

“First you slap me, then you demote me, and now you’re telling me I’m not even allowed to be angry?”

With that, she turned and walked out without a second glance.

Dominic chased her all the way out of the mansion.

Melanie knew it was all an act for her father's benefit.

“Melanie, Melanie, wait!”

Dominic grabbed her arm.

He knew he had gone too far this time.

Not only had he hit her in a fit of rage, but he had also taken away her position.

But Evelyn needed a job in Averin. She wanted that position, and he had no choice but to give it to her, which meant Melanie had to be the one to make a sacrifice.

“How about this, Melanie? What can I do to make it up to you? I’ll give you anything you want, as long as you forgive me…”

Dominic gazed at her, his eyes brimming with a familiar, watery affection.

That look had fooled her many times in the past.

But she wouldn’t be fooled again.

“Fine. I’ll give you one chance.”

Dominic breathed a sigh of relief.

The Hale family ran a pharmaceutical company, and their success was built on the rare ingredients supplied by the Royce family.

Though Nathaniel seemed harsh with Melanie, he had never given any of the Royce family shares to his new wife or stepdaughter.

He had given them all to Melanie.

Being on bad terms with her was not to his advantage.

“Name it. Clothes, jewelry, bags… I’ll buy you whatever you want.”

“I want money,” Melanie said bluntly.

Dominic was taken aback.

In their four years of marriage, this was the first time Melanie had ever asked him for money.

“We’re married. Isn’t my money your money?”

On the surface, he wasn’t wrong.
