She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 862

"No, sweetheart, you can't scratch it," Bryant pleaded, his heart breaking as he watched his daughter suffer. He felt utterly powerless.

Preston quickly tracked down a nurse to get some anti-itch cream, but it offered no relief.

Melanie had the nurse take Elina's temperature again. It had surpassed 102 degrees and was still climbing.

"Daddy..." Elina's voice was a frail whisper. She could barely keep her eyes open. "Why did you... turn into a cake?"

"What are you talking about, sweetie?" Bryant blinked, completely lost.

Melanie immediately leaned over the bed, her face tense. "Elina, look at me. Do you know who I am?"

Elina lay limp on the mattress, her glazed eyes staring blankly. Suddenly, she giggled. "Hehe... a little bunny. You're a bunny... how come you can talk?"

The color drained from Melanie's face. The situation was spiraling out of control. The high fever was causing severe hallucinations, meaning her condition was critical. The fever reducers were completely useless. The rash was spreading aggressively, and the antivirals were doing nothing.

"Bryant." Melanie turned to him, her tone deadly serious. "This isn't a normal cold."

"If it's not a cold, what is it?" Bryant asked frantically.

Melanie shook her head, frustration etching her features. "I don't know..." Given the bizarre presentation, she honestly didn't have an answer yet. "But I am absolutely certain it's not a normal infection."

"Then what do we do?"

Half an hour later, while the rash and hallucinations persisted, they finally managed to stabilize her vitals and bring her fever down.

Melanie stood outside the glass window, her brow furrowed as she watched Elina sleep.

Bryant had finally calmed down enough to process what had happened. He thanked Preston profusely. Even though he had no idea how Preston had summoned a Stellaris ambulance so quickly, he knew he owed the man his daughter's life. Feeling like a third wheel, Bryant made an excuse to go buy water, leaving Melanie and Preston alone in the hallway.

Melanie turned to Preston, her expression softening into deep sincerity. "Thank you for tonight. Really."

Preston met her earnest gaze with a slow, teasing smile. "I guess I'm not so petty after all?"
