Unlike Melanie.
Despite all the alcohol he had drunk, Dominic found himself growing increasingly sober.
He should go home and apologize to Evelyn.
Dominic stood up, swaying slightly.
Just as he pulled out his phone, the caller ID showed Evelyn's name.
"Hello, Evelyn…"
"Daddy…"
The voice on the other end was Lila's. Dominic froze.
"Lila? Why are you calling?"
"Daddy… Daddy, you have to come back…"
Hearing the sob in Lila's voice, Dominic sobered up almost instantly.
"What's wrong, Lila?"
"Mommy… I saw her… she's going to take some pills…"
"Pills?"
All the blood drained from Dominic's face.
"She… she apologized to me… said she was sorry… and that she… had to go to another world first…"
"Stop your mother! I'm coming home right now!"
Dominic hastily hung up and told Gavin to drive him home.
Gavin sighed but knew he couldn't refuse to help at a time like this.
"Gavin, don't leave yet. If something happens to Evelyn…"
After instructing Gavin, Dominic bolted up the stairs.
The moment he opened the door, he saw Evelyn sitting on the living room sofa, about to pour sleeping pills into her mouth.
Beside her, Lila was sobbing hysterically, her eyes swollen and red.
"No!"
Dominic rushed over and snatched the bottle of pills from Evelyn's hand.
"Evelyn, what are you doing!"
"Dominic…"
"Sorry, the number you have dialed has been switched off."
When he heard the message, Gavin couldn't help but mutter to himself, "Did Melanie really go get a room with that boy toy?"
On a plane to Aldoria, Melanie was asleep.
Preston, seated beside her, had been watching her for some time.
Melanie's head was resting against the plane window's shade.
His hands, clad in white silk gloves, hesitated for a moment before reaching out.
Gently, as if handling a priceless, fragile treasure, he guided her head to rest on his firm, broad shoulder.
Preston let out a quiet sigh of relief as Melanie seemed to sleep more comfortably.
The aircraft, which looked like a commercial airliner, had been privately chartered by him.
The only other passengers on board besides him and Melanie were his bodyguards and his assistant, Philip.
Once the plane reached cruising altitude and stabilized, Philip approached Preston and spoke quietly.
"Mr. Whitmore, after The Hale Group's collapse, we've noticed their funds are being redirected to The Hale Health Center. Should we take any action?"
As Philip spoke, Preston's deep, dark eyes glanced toward the sleeping Melanie.
