She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 96

When Melanie opened her eyes, the plane had already landed safely.

The first thing she saw was the sharp, handsome line of Preston’s profile. She froze for a moment.

She seemed to remember falling asleep against the small airplane window.

How did she wake up resting on Preston's shoulder?

She had just reminded Preston at Le Marcelline that she was a married woman. Now, after sleeping on his shoulder on the plane, would he think she was playing hard to get?

Melanie couldn't help but overthink it.

It was also because her relationship with Preston had progressed incredibly fast, from being mere strangers to living under the same roof.

Their faces were only inches apart, and looking into Preston’s deep, beautiful dark eyes, she couldn't detect any sign of displeasure or misunderstanding.

"I'm sorry. You could have pushed me away."

"It wasn't necessary."

Preston’s reply was as brief and cool as ever.

Melanie shrugged.

If Preston didn't make a big deal out of it, she didn't need to dwell on it either.

As they were leaving the airport, Melanie thanked Preston.

"Thank you for that amazing meal. I was supposed to treat you."

"Then you can treat me to a new one when you have the time!"

Preston’s reply was so quick and matter-of-fact that Melanie didn't know how to react for a moment.

So…

Did Preston just set up another date with her?

Melanie had only been thanking him out of politeness.

Even though Preston had used a friend's VIP status and hadn't actually spent a dime, he had still saved her twenty million dollars, so it was only right for her to thank him.

However, she had no intention of treating him to another meal.

But Preston had already put it out there, and refusing would be incredibly rude.

"…Okay… I guess…"

Melanie’s smile was a little awkward.

Her phone had just been turned back on, and there were several missed calls.

One was from Gavin.

Melanie didn't call back.

Clutching her phone, the veins on the back of Melanie’s hand stood out.

Preston, who was driving back to Rosevale Heights, glanced discreetly at the fuming Melanie in the passenger seat but didn't ask any questions.

Preston was silent, and Melanie was even more so.

The two of them didn't exchange a single word until they were back home.

"Aren't you even going to ask what I'm so angry about?"

In the end, it was Melanie who couldn't hold back and spoke first.

She didn't usually like to share her private matters with others.

But with Preston, she couldn't seem to help herself.

She was genuinely curious how Preston could remain so indifferent to the emotional state of a friend.

Preston looked at Melanie, whose face was still flushed with anger, and said softly,

"If you want to talk about it, I'll listen. If you don't, I won't force you. All that matters is knowing you're not angry with me."

His overly rational statement made Melanie crack a smile despite herself.

She opened the refrigerator, took out two lychee-flavored sodas, and handed one to Preston.
