She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 980

Melanie spoke coolly.

"I was just thinking... the dress is actually beautifully designed."

"What is that supposed to mean?!"

Valerie flared up instantly.

"Are you saying I have no taste?"

Melanie shook her head.

"I didn't say that. I just think the dress doesn't suit your body."

"Ha!"

Valerie let out a sharp, incredulous laugh, planting her hands on her hips.

"It doesn't suit me? Let me guess, it suits you?"

"It certainly suits me better than it suits you."

Every word out of Melanie's mouth was a precision strike to Valerie's ego.

Valerie was seething.

"Fine! Let's see you try it on, then! You talk a big game, but let's see if you even dare to wear it."

Before Valerie even finished her sentence, Preston had already instructed an attendant to hand the ice-blue mermaid gown to Melanie.

As Melanie walked into the fitting room, Valerie kept running her mouth.

"If a supermodel like me can't pull it off, how the hell is a plain Jane going to look better? You're way out of your league."

While Valerie was busy rolling her eyes, the fitting room door opened, and Melanie stepped out.

In an instant, the entire store went dead silent.

Valerie's jaw dropped.

Preston stared at Melanie unblinkingly, his eyes blazing with absolute awe and adoration.

Melanie hadn't even reached the full-length mirror yet, but judging by everyone's faces, she guessed the dress looked pretty good.

Even with that expectation, she was stunned when she finally saw her reflection.

Wow...

Did she really look this beautiful in a mermaid gown?

"My God!"

If an elite model like her couldn't conquer this dress, how could this nobody look so flawless in it?

She bit her lip, trembling with fury.

She even started to suspect Melanie was a rival model flown in from the mainland just to humiliate her.

While Valerie was practically hyperventilating with rage, Preston had already pulled out his black card.

Melanie hadn't found anything better than the ice-blue gown, so she decided it was the one.

And naturally, Preston was paying.

Any chance to spoil her was a privilege he wasn't going to pass up.

Since the banquet was tonight, bespoke wasn't an option. The ready-to-wear gown was priced at thirty thousand dollars, which wasn't terribly expensive.

At least, not to Preston.

The manager, wearing a practiced, beaming smile, reached out with both hands to accept the black card.

Suddenly, Valerie's screech shattered the peace.

"Don't sell it to her!"

She stomped across the floor, driving her stilettos into the carpet, and stopped right in front of the manager.
