"How can you tell?"
"Are you blind? Her eyes practically have heart eyes in them. Plus, he barely finished the question before she threw her hand up. So desperate..."
The girls next to Melanie instantly fired up their gossip mill again.
Melanie rested her chin on her hand, her gaze drifting toward the so-called campus beauty and academic star, Quinn Lennox.
Quinn had long, sleek black hair and wore a modest floral dress. She looked the picture of an obedient, quiet student, but her eyes and expression radiated an unhideable, arrogant ambition.
Melanie was genuinely curious to hear how she would answer Sebastian's clinical scenario.
"Director York, I'm Quinn Lennox, clinical medicine major."
Quinn started with an eager self-introduction. Sebastian merely nodded, remaining silent.
Taking her cue, Quinn confidently delivered her analysis.
"I believe... we should prescribe the new drug immediately."
Her tone left no room for debate.
"The new drug has superior efficacy and milder side effects. There is absolutely no logical justification to start with an inferior treatment."
"Prescribing the old drug means forcing the patient to endure worse clinical outcomes and harsher toxicity profiles for no reason. It is fundamentally unethical."
"Since the new drug is already FDA-approved and clinically validated, it must be the first-line treatment."
As Quinn finished, the entire lecture hall erupted in thunderous applause.
"She really is top of the class. That makes total sense."
"Looks like Quinn just nailed the textbook answer."
"Obviously! Didn't you see Director York nodding while she was talking?"
Basking in the praise and applause, Quinn sat back down, wearing the triumphant smirk of a victor.
Sebastian's expression, however, barely shifted.
"Does anyone else have a different perspective?"
Another student raised a hand, but merely echoed, "I agree with Quinn's assessment."
"Me too!"
Amidst the rising tide of whispers, Melanie calmly stood up.
Instantly, the room zeroed in on her.
"Holy shit!" a guy in the back blurted out, unable to contain his shock.
A wave of stunned gasps swept through the auditorium.
"She's gorgeous!"
"I'm sorry, what? She looks like a supermodel!"
"Forget the university, you couldn't find anyone that stunning on the entire island!"
"Damn... putting them side-by-side, Quinn kind of looks plain now, doesn't she?"
"Shut up! Quinn is sitting right there!"
Even though the students aggressively whispered to spare Quinn's feelings, the sheer volume of the chatter made it impossible for her not to hear.
Quinn's previously triumphant face darkened, looking as though a storm cloud had physically settled over her features.
