By the time Hulda and Sienna finished their statements and walked out, it was past midnight.
The young girl was still deeply shaken, clinging tightly to Hulda's side.
"Hulda, it's the guy who saved us," Sienna whispered, her voice still trembling as she pointed ahead.
Hulda looked up. Caspian's tall, imposing figure was standing under a streetlight, on the phone.
Whatever he was saying, his expression was fiercely cold, his aura intimidating.
Under the dim amber light, his shadow stretched long across the pavement.
Noticing her gaze, he hung up and walked over.
Watching him approach, Hulda's first instinct was to run. But seeing her phone in his hand, she forced herself to stay put.
He stopped three feet away. "Your phone."
"Thank you," she said quietly, taking it from him.
Beside her, Sienna looked up at Caspian and blurted out, "Wow, you're so handsome, like a college boy."
Caspian's brow darkened. "A college boy?"
He refused to accept being relegated to a younger generation than Hulda.
"You treat her with the utmost respect, yet you talk to me like we're at a frat party? Call me sir."
Sienna was deeply intimidated by his cold stare and stammered, "S-Sir..."
Due to the age dynamics, she was supposed to show absolute deference to Hulda, as Hulda had been her father's protégé.
But this man was so fiercely intimidating!
Terrified, Sienna hid behind Hulda, too scared to meet his eyes again.
"Mr. Sterling, she's young. Please don't frighten her," Hulda said. She kept her eyes lowered, refusing to look at him, her tone distant and detached.
Caspian let out a cold laugh. He took a step closer, a suffocating pressure radiating off him. "Hulda, I just saved your life. Do you remember?"
"Yes, I remember. And I already said thank you." Her face was completely blank, her voice as flat as ever.
He laughed in sheer frustration. "So a simple 'thank you' is enough?"
If he wanted to lie, let him lie.
Caspian slipped his hands into his pockets, staring down at her with haughty arrogance. "You have to pay for all of it."
Hulda absorbed every word. She was absolutely certain this man was just messing with her, deliberately trying to make her life miserable.
But despite her immense irritation, she couldn't deny the truth. If he and Dylan hadn't shown up in that alley, what happened to her and Sienna would have been horrific.
Swallowing her frustration, she nodded. "Fine, I'll pay. Tell me how much."
Caspian smiled faintly. "Do you really think I'm talking about money?"
She froze, then gave a self-deprecating laugh.
Of course he wasn't.
Why would he care about money? As Bertram Sterling's adopted son and the heir to his massive fortune, Caspian had taken control of the core operations of the Trident Corporation years ago, long before she even left the Sterling household.
"Then how do you expect me to compensate you?" she asked.
He raised an eyebrow, a roguish glint appearing on his normally pristine face. "I haven't decided yet. I'll let you know when I figure it out." He pulled out his phone and handed it to her. "Give me your current number."
