Half an hour later, there was some commotion in the hallway. Gail came out with a jacket draped over her shoulders. Jack was asking where the master's stomach medication was.
Gail quickly pulled her jacket on and followed Jack upstairs.
After searching for a long time without success, Jack grew anxious and instructed her to fetch the young madam.
Hearing the knock, Quinn closed her laptop and stepped out.
Gail looked frantic. "Ms. Avery, it's terrible. Mr. York's stomach condition is acting up again. Do you know where his medication is?"
Serves him right!
"Isn't it in the drawer?"
Gail grabbed her arm, trying to pull her upstairs. "We checked, it's not there. Please come upstairs and help us look. He is in a lot of pain."
Quinn laughed softly. "He doesn't allow me on the second floor."
"This..."
Gail released her hand, unsure of what to do. In the past, it was always Quinn who nursed the master's stomach back to health.
Seeing Gail still standing at the door refusing to leave, Quinn opened a cabinet and handed her something. "I have a spare box here. Take it."
Quinn had previously nurtured Miles's stomach and, fearing a flare-up, kept a spare box of antacids just in case. She never expected it to actually come in handy.
She didn't want to be interrupted from her work any longer, so she sent Gail off with the medication.
Gail hurried upstairs with the pills. Jack was still waiting.
Miles sat on the edge of the bed, his face pale, a thin layer of sweat breaking out on his forehead.
"Sir, the medication... is here. You'll feel better once you take it."
As Miles swallowed the pills, Gail spoke up. "I actually had to ask Ms. Avery for this. It turns out she kept a spare box just for you."
Miles's brow twitched slightly at her words.
Jack noticed the coffee resting on the coffee table. "Sir, why are you drinking coffee in the middle of the night? Your stomach is already a mess."
Miles felt a sense of déjà vu. Where had he heard that before?
Jack continued, "I'll have Gail make you some oatmeal to soothe your stomach."
Gail went downstairs and began preparing the oatmeal.
