He foolishly thought that spending time with her and building a fairytale playground would make her happily accept him as her godfather.

Judith watched him massaging his temples, his expression heavy, and her face shifted slightly. "Son, I didn't interfere this time. That little girl simply didn't want to accept you as her godfather. You can't force these things."

Miles rubbed his temples harder, lowering his eyelashes to hide the deep gloom in his eyes.

"Mom, how did you all find out I was planning to make Luna my goddaughter today?"

Judith's eyes darted nervously. Why was her son suddenly asking about this?

She hesitated, wondering if she should confess that Jade was the one who called Macy.

After a brief internal debate, she decided to keep quiet to prevent any friction between him and Jade.

"Well... Cody and Luke called Macy to ask about the gathering, and that's how I found out you were planning to take someone else's kid as a goddaughter."

"Then why did Jade and Leo show up?"

He firmly believed that if Jade and Leo hadn't tagged along today, Luna would have agreed to be his goddaughter.

Judith's gaze flickered guiltily. "I... I called Jade. She was shocked, so she came over."

"Don't blame me and Jade for this. Leo is your actual son. How could you hide something like taking Quinn's friend's child as your goddaughter from us?"

"Mom, Leo isn't..."

Before he could finish, Macy's frantic voice echoed from outside the study, cutting him off.

"Miles! Something's wrong! Leo touched something and now his face is covered in a red rash. He says it's incredibly itchy and painful."

"What?"

Miles shot up from his chair and yanked the study door open. "What happened?"

Macy panicked, "You need to come downstairs right now! I don't know what's going on, but Jade is terrified."

"Don't scratch it, you'll tear your skin. Just hold on a little longer, Leo."

Watching the red welts multiply across his skin, Judith was beside herself with anxiety. "Leo, my sweet boy, how did this happen?"

Macy pointed a furious finger toward the slide. "Someone put poison on the slide! As soon as Leo slid down, his skin started itching and he couldn't stop scratching."

Miles refused to believe it. His dark eyes turned cold. "Macy, how do you know someone poisoned the slide?"

"A maid saw it! Lily, come over here and tell everyone what you saw."

A maid named Lily hurried over. "Ma'am, Miss. Earlier, I saw the young madam's friend helping the little girl on the slide. Some powder fell out of her pocket. After they left, Master Leo went down the slide and broke out in a rash shortly after."

Luke clenched his fists. "Mrs. York, it has to be that wicked woman! She poisoned Leo! We need to call the cops and have her arrested."

Cody was equally enraged. "That woman threw water on Luke earlier. She was definitely holding a grudge because Leo didn't want Mr. York to adopt her daughter. So she sprinkled poison on the slide before she left. What a vicious heart."

Judith's brow furrowed tightly, her expression turning terrifyingly grim. "Quinn is nothing but trouble, and look at the venomous snakes she keeps as friends!"
