Hearing her call him that sent an inexplicable flutter through Zachary's heart. It sounded wonderful.
"I'll introduce you to my sister sometime. You two are the same age, I'm sure you'll have a lot to talk about."
Quinn remembered hearing from Macy York and Jade Winter that Zachary's younger sister had gone missing when she was little and was only recently found.
Hearing his invitation, she smiled and nodded. "I'd love that, Zack."
His sister had to be incredibly happy—and enviable—to have such a gentle, caring brother.
...
Quinn headed to the Fairview Apartments and recounted the events of the previous night to Yara Chase.
Yara's eyes went wide. She practically jumped off the sofa, looking Quinn up and down. "Quinn, did they hurt you? How is your body holding up?"
"I'm fine. I just got discharged from the hospital."
"That Arthur Jr. is cruising for a bruising! Let me change my clothes. I'm going to track him down and beat the living daylights out of him for you!"
Quinn quickly pulled her back. "Yara, it's over. I'm washing my hands of his mess."
"Quinn, that deadbeat brother of yours is a parasite. Promise me you'll never try to save him again."
Quinn was steeped in regret. "Yara, I thought he had quit gambling. I never imagined he'd sink even deeper."
"Don't be foolish enough to fall for it next time. You treat him like a brother, but he certainly doesn't treat you like a sister. If he gets into trouble, let him call the cops himself. We live in a civilized society—it's not like they're actually going to kill him."
The two talked for a long time. Yara admitted it was a good thing Miles had arrived in time, otherwise the consequences would have been unthinkable.
Naturally, the conversation steered toward gossip as Yara asked if anything physical had happened with Miles.
Quinn shook her head instinctively. "There is absolutely no way anything happened between us. He just took me to the hospital."
"Besides, he's always looked down on me and found me repulsive. Why would he let me touch him?"
Quinn hadn't forgotten the incident abroad when he had been drugged, mistakenly believed they had slept together, and forced her to take a contraceptive pill.
