Quinn let out a harsh scoff. "Your precious childhood friend stole my translated work. When I confronted her, she felt so guilty she scratched the back of my hand with her nails."
Jade's voice shook, thin and pitiful, laced with a wronged sob.
"Quinn, you... are you misunderstanding something? Why would I steal your work?"
"I just got my nails done last night. You were the one who grabbed me, and I was just trying to pull away. You can't blame me for having sharp acrylics. You accidentally hurt yourself, so how is this my fault?"
Lynn Reed chimed in, "This is honestly the best joke I've heard all year. Secretary Winter graduated with dual degrees from a top-tier overseas university. She's Mr. York's secretary and has handled countless major translation projects. Why on earth would she need to steal the work of someone who's never even studied abroad?"
It wasn't just Lynn who thought this way; Miles shared the sentiment. His brow tightened, and his dark eyes bore into her with oppressive weight. "Quinn, do you have any proof? Because if you don't, this is straight-up slander!"
Around them, the executive office staff began whispering and exchanging judgmental glances.
Quinn's knuckles turned white from clenching her fists. Proof. That was exactly what she was here for.
"Where is Wayne?"
Hunter quickly stepped forward. "M—Ms. Avery, Wayne will be at the office shortly. Whatever it is, let's step inside the office to talk first."
Jade trailed pitifully behind Miles. "Miles, I already apologized to Quinn last time because of Leo. But now she's slandering me, and I want her to give me a formal apology!"
Thinking about how Jade had stolen her work and then played the victim, Quinn's eyes turned to ice. "Jade, you'd better hope you covered your tracks well!"
Jade's gaze remained soft, projecting pure, innocent victimhood. "Quinn, Miles already said it. If you can't produce evidence, you're defaming me. And this time... this time, I won't forgive you so easily!"
Seeing the pure rage in Quinn's eyes directed at Jade, Miles frowned in heavy displeasure.
"Quinn, what exactly do you want with Wayne? I've already called him up to the executive suite. You can ask him yourself."
Right on cue, Wayne knocked lightly and entered the office.
