"Actually, they've already been detained. Don't tell me you didn't know, Quinn?"
"What?"
Quinn's heart plummeted, and the color drained from her face. Ethan had sent Gabe Hudson to handle the evidence. Had Gabe been arrested?
"Miles, you actually called the cops on Gabe just to help Jade escape the consequences?"
Hearing her icy interrogation, Miles's expression remained utterly impassive. He only let out a mocking sneer.
"It seems this Gabe person is quite loyal to you. He got arrested and hasn't even reached out to you for help. Let's hope he keeps his mouth shut forever."
Quinn's eyes rimmed with red, brimming with profound disappointment and a bone-deep chill.
"Miles, you are truly despicable!"
With that, she hung up the phone. Desperate to know if Miles was telling the truth, she immediately dialed Gabe Hudson's number.
Gabe picked up after two rings. "Gabe, are you... are you okay?"
Gabe sounded a bit surprised. "Ms. Avery, did you hear something? I'm perfectly fine. It's just that Skylar... she was arrested."
Quinn was confused. "Skylar?"
"Skylar is the girl I sent to work as a temporary maid at Jade's house. She's the one who planted the Shadow-Trace Plugin on Jade's computer, which allowed us to get the evidence that she stole your manuscript for the translation award."
"Ethan is already handling it. You don't need to worry about this. Ethan won't let anything happen to her."
It felt as though a jagged rock was lodged in Quinn's throat. She was so choked up she couldn't make a sound, her eyes swimming with immense guilt.
Ethan hadn't breathed a word of this to her. If Miles hadn't brought it up, would Ethan have just shouldered the entire burden himself?
