After she finished breakfast, her phone chimed. Hunter had wired her twenty thousand dollars.
[Ma'am, Mr. York expects you at Grace Abbey on the 15th.]
Quinn didn't reply, but half an hour later, she accepted the transfer.
It was money she had rightfully earned. This was exactly how Miles operated.
He always acted as if tossing a bit of cash her way could magically erase the trauma of abandoning her on a desolate mountain road in the dead of night.
Two days passed. Miles called Quinn, demanding to know why she hadn't shown up at Grace Abbey.
He hadn't been back to Regency Bay for the last few days, which meant Quinn had been living in blissful peace, staying out late playing with the kids.
When she answered his call, she was happily feeding koi fish with the twins at the park.
"Quinn, did you forget something today?"
Quinn was already thoroughly disgusted by his arrogant, entitled attitude. She wasn't his maid. What gave him the right to snap his fingers and expect her to come running?
She shot back, her tone frosty, "Forget what?"
"Today is the 15th."
Quinn replied with deep annoyance, "Find someone else to play along. I'm no longer a part of the York family. I'll find time to explain things to Grandma Evelyn myself."
Grandma Evelyn was the only person in the York family who actually treated her like family and genuinely cared for her.
Knowing Susan would make her life a living hell, Grandma Evelyn had explicitly sent Jack to manage Regency Bay.
Because Jack was there, Susan couldn't overtly abuse her, though the maid still constantly grouped up with the other staff to isolate and mock her behind closed doors.
Miles had zero patience left. He wasn't negotiating; he was giving an order.
"Once we sign the divorce papers, I will never call you again. But today, you must be there."
It was a York family tradition—every 15th of the month, they had to attend Grace Abbey for a family blessing.
Whenever Miles was in the city, they were required to attend together. If he was traveling, she had to go alone. For four years, rain or shine, it was mandatory.
Quinn's temper flared. "Miles, when you kicked me out of your car, did you ever stop to think how I was supposed to get back to Regency Bay? What if I hadn't made it back? Who would you be ordering around today?"
