"Didn't you just say time is valuable? Cut the nonsense and get inside."
Miles's face was stone cold. He had no desire to waste another second arguing with her.
He had a critical meeting later, and her stunt had already cost him an hour.
The head abbot chanted a blessing over them and sprinkled holy water.
Miles kept his head bowed and eyes closed, looking the picture of devotion.
After today, they would have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Walking out, he looked visibly relieved, as if a massive weight had just been lifted off his shoulders.
Suddenly, Quinn's phone rang. It was her brother, AJ.
"Quinn! You have to get to The Aurora Club right now! I... they're beating me to death! They're going to break my legs!"
"What?"
Quinn panicked, trying to get more details, but all she could hear through the speaker were her brother's agonized screams.
"AJ?!"
She tried calling back, but no one answered. The silence only amplified her terror.
If she called an Uber now, the wait time would be too long, and her brother's life was on the line.
Seeing Miles's car about to pull away, she sprinted toward it in a panic. "Miles, can you please take me to The Aurora Club? My brother is in trouble, I have to get there now!"
Miles looked at her with pure indifference. "Didn't I just tell you my time is valuable? Call a car."
Quinn's face was white with panic. "There's no time! If I wait any longer, they're going to shatter his legs!"
Miles assumed she was just trying to cling to him again. Over the years, she had constantly looked for excuses to win his favor, but he had remained entirely unmoved.
He remembered the promise he made to himself in the abbey—that he was done with her and wanted zero attachments.
He raised an eyebrow mockingly. "Quinn, we live in a society with laws. You don't need to invent such pathetic excuses."
Quinn softened her tone, begging desperately, "Miles, please. Mr. York, I'm begging you. Just this once?"
