She Walked Away With His Twins, While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 40

The reason was simple...

The first time she went to the old York estate to drop something off for her mother, she spotted Miles York. She recognized the aloof, brooding billionaire heir instantly.

He was the older boy who, years ago, had stepped in and terrified away a group of street thugs who had cornered her.

That one casual act of kindness was something Quinn had held onto for years.

But now, this stew was nothing more than a formal apology for her brother's disastrous behavior and the precious time she had cost Miles today.

Whether he accepted the gesture or not was entirely up to him.

"Ma'am, your savory chicken and herb stew is incredibly rich. You could easily rival a Michelin-star chef."

"Thank you for the compliment, Gail. Make sure to have a bowl later."

Quinn purposely made a large batch so Gail and Jack could enjoy some too.

She planned to use the opportunity to explain today's disaster to Miles. Whether he actually listened wasn't her problem anymore.

She wasn't trying to salvage her image in his eyes—she was fully aware that any respect he had for her was already completely dead.

Miles arrived home at half-past eight. When he stepped out of his car, he didn't immediately see Quinn approaching.

Unlike her usual cold detachment, Quinn's voice carried a hint of nervous tension.

"Miles, I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry for what happened today. My brother was entirely out of line. He had no right to drag your name into his mess or use your reputation to stroke his own ego. It was completely unfair to you, and I sincerely apologize!"

"Quinn, sweetie, are you out here waiting for Miles again?"

Jade Winter stepped out from the passenger side of the car, her stiletto heels clicking sharply against the pavement. Her makeup was flawlessly elegant, her blown-out curls radiating pure femininity, and her designer dress hugging her stunning curves.

Her gaze drifted lazily over Quinn, a mocking smirk curling her lips, her tone dripping with a condescension only Quinn could detect.

Quinn had just walked out of the kitchen. She was still wearing her apron, and loose strands of hair clung tiredly to her temples.

Dressed in plain clothes, she looked completely drained, the exhaustion of domestic labor written clearly across her features.
