"Is it that you don't want strangers to see your face, or are you hiding some kind of... secret?"
Miles intentionally dragged out the word 'secret,' watching the boy's reaction closely.
Caleb instinctively reached up to protect his half-mask, entirely unbothered. "Miles, put me down first."
He was worried this man might forcefully pull off his mask without permission while his mother wasn't around.
Miles noticed the protective gesture, his predatory gaze darkening.
It seemed the boy really was hiding an unspeakable secret. He pushed the thought down for now.
"Miles, I remember Quinn telling you that I'm taking a very rare medication. I can't be exposed to sunlight right now, not even bright indoor lights."
Miles's gaze grew deep and somber. Caleb met his stare head-on, keeping his back straight without a hint of evasion.
To possess such composure at his age meant this boy was destined to be a formidable figure when he grew up.
From the very first time Miles had seen him, a complex feeling had stirred in his chest. Later, to ensure Caleb could participate in the National Junior Prodigy Challenge, he had specifically pulled strings to lower the age requirement to three.
He couldn't find a logical reason for why he had done it; he only knew he desperately wanted the boy to be there.
He crouched down, his voice softening. "I'll just call you Caleb from now on. Come on, let's go find Luna."
Caleb could feel the man's complicated gaze lingering on him. His little legs moved quickly as he jogged out of the restroom.
Meanwhile, Quinn's taxi pulled up to the gates of Regency Bay. She scrambled out of the car and sprinted inside.
As soon as she entered the grounds, she heard Luna and Caleb's laughter coming from the children's play castle. Miles was playing with them, and everyone seemed incredibly happy.
Anxious, she hurried over. When Luna saw her mother return, her little legs pumped as she ran happily toward her.
Her sweet, milky voice rang out.
"Quinn, you're back! Caleb and I have been playing for over an hour."
Caleb trotted over right behind his sister, his eyes shining with joy. "I wanted to call you, but my smartwatch died."
"Luna, Caleb, nothing happened to you, right?"

I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
