"Quinn, are you telling Luna not to answer my calls?"
Quinn frowned as she listened to the message, perfectly prepared to fire back and curse him out.
Yara shook her head quickly. "Quinn, that jerk knows you're stopping Luna from answering."
"If you provoke him, what if he sends someone to track her down?"
Realizing Yara was right, Quinn forced her anger down and typed a reply: [I didn't. Try calling again, Luna probably just missed it.]
Miles called again, and this time, Luna answered.
"Good morning, Luna."
"Weird Uncle? Good morning!"
The sweet, innocent voice of the three-year-old rang through the phone, irresistibly soft and endearing.
Hearing her call him Uncle melted something deep inside Miles. Stripped of his ruthless, cold corporate persona, he suddenly looked very much like a doting father.
"Did you like the phone watch I sent you?"
Thinking her mom had broken it but not wanting to complain, Luna cheerfully said she liked it. "I love it! Thank you, Weird Uncle!"
Those words unexpectedly pierced the softest part of his heart, filling him with a warm, unexplainable sense of affection.
"Weird Uncle, my brother said it's probably around eight or nine in the morning where you are abroad. Did you eat breakfast yet?"
Miles felt completely wrapped up in her sweet chatter, happily drowning in this sudden feeling of closeness.
But hearing she had a brother sparked his curiosity. "Luna, you have a brother? How old is he?"
The little boy in the space warrior hat flashed through his mind. He looked exactly the same age as Luna.
He had run into both Luna and that boy at the amusement park that day. Could they be related?
"He's... the same age as me."
Miles asked, "Is he your real brother?"
Hearing the conversation, Quinn frantically waved her hands, signaling Luna not to say they were biological siblings.
She was terrified Caleb would be exposed. Luna's features already resembled hers closely enough to make Miles suspicious the other day.
She had barely managed to throw him off the scent. She absolutely could not let Caleb's existence slip out now.
If Miles ever saw Caleb's face, there would be no hiding the truth.
