Hearing the sound, Naomi stood up abruptly. She looked toward the door, and then she was slightly stunned.

Naomi never could have imagined that her guardian angel would be Luther's wife.

But she was so beautiful, so dazzling, matching exactly what she had envisioned, and very young too, looking no older than herself. She remembered what Harrell had just said—that Hilda had endured so much over the years, yet persisted in sponsoring her even during the hardest of times.

In an instant, Naomi's nose stung, and tears spilled from her eyes.

Hilda gazed at her quietly. Her eyes were warm and full of maternal affection.

Even though they were around the same age, Hilda seemed like a mentor to her.

Naomi's heart swelled with deep admiration. She took a few quick steps to Hilda, trembling as she reached out to embrace her. Even though she was half a head taller than Hilda, she buried her face in Hilda's shoulder, presenting herself in the fragile posture of an infant.

Naomi was an orphan. She didn't have a mother. It was Hilda who gave her a better life. To her, Hilda was a second mother, right after the orphanage director. People naturally admire the strong, and her guardian angel was so stunning, so brilliant.

Her heart was filled with pride. She wanted to dedicate everything to her.

Hilda's eyes grew moist. The little girl she had quietly cared for over so many years. —How could she not feel deeply attached?

When she first saw Naomi's photo, she was just a scrawny little thing. Now, she had grown so tall and had become the successful representative for the French company Mokshalia. She felt incredibly proud, gently stroking Naomi's hair just like she would with little Annie.

Naomi kept clinging to her.

She fully enjoyed the warmth Hilda bestowed upon her.

She had waited for this moment for far too long.

She had waited for her for far too long.

Standing off to the side, Harrell felt like he couldn't even bear to watch.

Naomi, being so tall, was nestled in Hilda's arms.

Like a giant golden retriever.

Hilda hadn't fully recovered from her illness and looked fragile. Being clung to by a golden retriever-like Naomi was quite an incongruous sight, though truthfully, it was deeply moving.

Harrell had never lacked money.

But that didn't mean he was ignorant of human suffering.

He had seen Hilda in her most dismal state.

Hilda's youth must have been financially strained.

To sponsor Naomi, she definitely had to be even more frugal.

He thought again of the slap mark on her face.

Harrell's Adam's apple bobbed slightly, his emotions in turmoil.

—This feeling was heartache.

Naomi finally released Hilda.

Tears still hung on her face.

Hilda gently wiped them away, teasing her softly, "You look like a little messy kitten."

Naomi had originally wanted to act mature; she didn't want Hilda to think she was childish. But after tasting her tenderness, she couldn't help but cry uselessly. Such a tall girl holding onto Hilda, refusing to let go.

Hilda held her and said softly—

"Don't cry, Naomi."

...

At nine o'clock in the evening.

Hilda and Naomi hugged goodbye.

Naomi was incredibly reluctant to part.

Unfortunately, she had a direct flight to France tonight, and the next time she returned would be in a month. But she no longer felt anxious about losing her. Finding Hilda meant she now had a home in Alpha City. She planned to buy property here. If Hilda ever got tired of working, she would provide for her and support her child.

Harrell personally drove Hilda back to the hospital.

The gray Ghost slowly pulled up downstairs.

Just as the car came to a stop.

Harrell saw a dark silhouette standing across the street.

It was none other than Luther.

The night was cold.

Luther was dressed only in a dress shirt and a vest.

The dim light outlined his features like those of a god.

The man looked devastatingly handsome in the dark.

A cigarette burned between his fingertips.

His deep gaze pierced into the car.
