Half an hour later, Harrell's car pulled up outside the hospital.

Because of Hilda's pregnancy, he was extra attentive.

He intentionally got out first, opened her door, and gently supported her arm as she stepped out.

As the sky grew dark, he didn't feel right leaving her alone, so he accompanied her inside.

The doctor was a familiar acquaintance.

She had specifically kept the clinic open for Hilda for an extra half hour.

Once Hilda arrived, the chief obstetrician gave her a thorough examination. Smiling warmly, the doctor said, "The fetal heartbeat is incredibly steady. You've got a very strong little baby in there! Everything looks perfectly healthy. Just remember to keep taking your folic acid, and we'll see you again at the three-month mark."

Hilda gripped the small appointment card.

The doctor had used a blue card. She had a faint intuition that the baby was a boy.

She wasn't sure if it was the surge of pregnancy hormones making her more sentimental, but as she walked out of the doctor's office, she couldn't calm her racing heart. In seven short months, this little life would be born into the world. She knew she would love this baby just as fiercely as she loved Annie.

In the long hospital corridor, Hilda looked down, gently resting a hand over her flat stomach. Her eyes were soft and filled with peace.

Harrell was captivated by that radiant maternal glow. Unable to stop himself, he gently reached out and brushed his fingers against her stomach. He pulled back almost instantly, but his eyes remained glued to her, unable to look away. He desperately wanted to tell her that the divorce didn't matter. He wanted to marry her. He wanted to take care of the children, and he was more than willing to be a father to this baby.

Hilda looked up at him. To her, Harrell was much more than just Luther's cousin.

They were comrades in the business world. They were wonderful friends.

The two of them smiled at each other, sharing a quiet, tender moment. Watching from a distance, Eleanor felt as though she had been struck by lightning. She stood frozen, unable to move a single muscle.

Harrell and Hilda were actually together. No wonder he had gotten into a fistfight with Luther last time. No wonder he had been visiting the family estate so often lately. Every time Hilda came back, he made sure to be there. So this was why...

An intense war waged inside Eleanor's mind.

One was her biological son, one was her beloved nephew, and the other was the woman she treated like her own daughter.

A love triangle between the three of them.

And now Luther was trying to divorce Hilda.

Eleanor had weathered many storms in her life. She hid in the shadows, waiting for the two of them to leave, and eventually managed to find out exactly why Hilda was at the hospital.

She was two months along. Hilda was pregnant.

The world spun darkly before Eleanor's eyes once more. Whose baby was it?

Eleanor had her own selfish reasons for staying quiet.

First, Harrell was her nephew.

Second, she was terrified of what would happen if the baby really was Harrell's.

She wanted to protect Hilda's reputation. So, she kept the pregnancy a complete secret from her husband.

As for the marriage, she decided to let Hilda make her own choices.

After a long pause, Eleanor set her handbag on the sofa and sat down, her expression deeply troubled.

"Nathan, our way of thinking is getting old. Are we just falling behind the times? Let the young people figure out their own feelings and marriages. But mark my words—I will never accept Jolie Lovell."

Nathan looked slightly disappointed. If even Eleanor couldn't persuade Hilda, then the girl's heart really had turned cold. It was all Luther's fault.

Late into the night, Eleanor continued to toss and turn.

Unable to sleep, she lay wide awake staring at the ceiling. Her mind was entirely consumed by the image of Harrell and Hilda standing together, and the unborn child growing inside Hilda.

Finally, she hardened her resolve. No matter whose it was, that baby was her precious grandchild.
