The party ended.
Harrell and Hilda drove home.
On the way, he received a call from his mother, Catherine. She missed Annie and little Landon and wanted to come to Alpha City to see them. It worked out perfectly—she could take Annie back home for school after the holidays.
Harrell held his phone, chatting with his mother.
When the car stopped at a red light, he glanced over, his eyes softening as he looked at Hilda.
"What time are you flying in tomorrow?"
"Arriving at 11 AM?"
"Alright, Hilda and I will come pick you up."
After a few moments, Harrell hung up.
The light turned green.
He accelerated, holding his wife's hand as they chatted. "I was planning to bring you to the airport to pick her up, but she said since you just had the baby, you shouldn't be running around in the cold. She explicitly ordered me not to drag you out. See? She really cares about you."
In the past, Hilda had always been the fiercely independent, 'sensible' one.
She had to be sensible in her own family.
And she had to be even more sensible when she was married to Luther.
But now, Harrell was spoiling her so much she was actually becoming a little pampered.
Deep down, she really wanted to go pick Catherine up.
After all, it was Harrell's mother.
When she mentioned she wanted to go, Harrell hadn't said no. But he was incredibly sly about it. That night, he didn't initiate anything, but the moment she woke up and finished nursing the baby, he pulled her back into bed. He was young and possessed boundless stamina, making love to her until she was so exhausted she fell right back asleep.
Hilda still had the airport trip on her mind.
She didn't dare sleep too deeply.
Her husband walked out of the bathroom looking entirely refreshed.
After multiple rounds, he somehow seemed even more energized.
Harrell sat on the edge of the bed, gently pinching Hilda's cheek, and whispered tenderly, "I'll tell the maid to wake you up at 11. I won't let my mom catch you looking this utterly ravished. Just sleep now. The nannies have the kids... Thank you for a beautiful morning, Mrs. Judson."
He leaned down, kissing her deliberately.
Leaving her breathless and flushed.
Hilda wrapped her slender arms around his neck.
Today, more than ever, she really didn't want him to leave.
She smiled at her own clinginess.
