Hilda's heart tightened.
She quickly walked into the villa.
Sure enough, she saw Landon being held by the nanny. Luther was teasing the child, patiently teaching Landon to call him Dad. The little guy was fourteen months old and could already say some words. Having not lived with Harrell, he didn't have a strong concept of what a father was. After Luther teased him a few times, he called out 'Dad'.
Luther's eyes were full of tenderness.
He took Landon from the nanny and kissed him.
Landon looked exactly like him.
From the contours of his face to his eyes, he was a mirror image.
He really couldn't bear to send him back.
As Hilda entered the house, her steps slowed.
Her voice was light but tense. "Why did you bring Landon over?"
Holding Landon, Luther looked at the woman by the door.
Beautiful and elegant.
Hilda was twenty-eight now. She was only twenty when he met her, but she looked even better than before, having gained a mature, feminine charm that was incredibly alluring to men.
The man kissed the little guy and smiled. "Landon is our biological flesh and blood. Bringing him over for a short stay, Catherine agreed to it... Why are you the one objecting?"
The man handed the child back to the nanny, walked over to the woman, and stared deeply into her eyes. His voice was gentle, like a husband speaking to his most beloved wife. "Don't you miss your child?"
This was a difficult question to answer.
Hilda naturally refused to reply.
Luther stared at her for a long time.
It seemed he didn't want to fight in front of the servants either.
He took Landon and handed him to her, proactively breaking the ice. "But little Landon missed his mommy very much! He's still young, so how about we bring him over occasionally for you to look after? It's not like you're incredibly busy with work. Naomi is managing that company, right? As for that little side business of yours, it's just a hobby. You don't rely on it for money. Besides, you're not pregnant, and Annie is being looked after by my parents."
Hilda understood perfectly.
He brought Landon over for a third child.
Luther's meaning was clear: if she didn't want a third baby, he was going to take Landon away.
The woman's throat tightened. "Luther, you can't do this."
"You know I can."
The man's voice softened. "Hilda, if you keep sneaking birth control pills, then Landon won't need to go back to Havenworth City. He can just be my son again, and I won't need to have a third child. Either he or Annie will be a suitable heir."
Actually, he wanted another child with her.
A child he could watch grow in her belly, a child he and Hilda could raise together—this held great significance for Luther. Perhaps he was jealous, because Harrell had experienced things Luther never had, and now Hilda was acting incredibly reluctant.
He knew it was coercion, but forcing it still got him what he wanted.
Hilda held Landon.
How could a fourteen-month-old understand adult matters?
He just missed his mom very much, hugging her tightly and babbling 'Mommy'.
Hilda's heart ached.
—Luther doing this was essentially slicing her heart to pieces.
How much resolve did it take for a mother to separate from her child?
