Deep into the night.
Hilda lay quietly in the hospital bed.
Her mind had cleared slightly.
Despite the haze she had been living in, she was somewhat aware of the changes in her body. Her slender white fingers gently rested against her flat stomach, where Luther's child was currently growing. It only took him one month to get her pregnant. Over the last thirty days, she hadn't gone anywhere; she had simply been fiercely possessed by him. Without even being given a choice, she was now carrying his baby.
Hilda blinked slowly.
She didn't want this child.
The two she already had were leverage enough.
She couldn't handle another.
But she knew exactly how ruthless Luther could be. If she dared to abort the baby, he would simply force another pregnancy on her. She was genuinely terrified of him. She admitted defeat; she just wasn't cruel enough. She didn't possess even a fraction of Luther's ruthlessness.
The door to the VIP suite opened.
A chill night breeze slipped in.
Luther gently pulled the door shut. Dressed in a crisp white shirt, he looked every bit the refined, elegant aristocrat, yet behind closed doors, he was driven by primal obsession. The way he looked at Hilda was incredibly complicated. He looked at her like a wife, like an alluring woman, but mostly, like his exclusive possession.
They stared at each other in silence.
After a long moment, Luther walked toward her.
He sat on the edge of the bed and placed his hand over her stomach.
His voice held a rare trace of gentleness.
"Hilda, we're having another baby."
"Everything is finally back on track. Tomorrow, I'll bring Annie and Landon home, and our family will live a good life together."
Hilda didn't respond.
She slowly rested her cheek against her knees.
She stared out the window at the setting moon.
Luther's voice drifted into her ear. "By the way, Harrell is getting married next month. To Louisa Lynn from Havenworth City. She's a very innocent, young girl, quite a good match for him. You don't have to worry about him anymore... We're going to live a good life together from now on."
The words washed over Hilda, making her feel as if she were floating.
Like a surreal dream.
She was carrying Luther's child, and Harrell was getting married.
