Regency Club.
Luther stepped into the private VIP suite.
Yorick Lynn instantly cranked the party's energy up to eleven.
With Project Sovereign officially taking off, everyone in the room who had bought in was practically guaranteed to double their net worth in record time. Despite Yorick's past grievances, he had to admit that Luther was the absolute apex predator of their circle. If Luther decided he was going to conquer something, he had the terrifying willpower to actually pull it off.
The atmosphere was electric.
But Luther remained thoroughly detached.
He was always like this.
The center of gravity in any room, a dragon among mere mortals.
Zane Ziegler had brought his fiancée to the gathering.
— Louisa Lynn's cousin.
Halfway through the night, Zane and Luther stepped out onto the terrace for a smoke.
Cigarette pinched between his fingers, Zane offered Luther a wry smile. "Sylvie asked me to check in with you. Where exactly did you lock Hilda up for 'treatment'? I've got fairly deep connections in the medical sector, but I can't find a single trace of her. Luther, let it go. You're the one who ruthlessly dragged her back. If you had just bitten the bullet and let them leave back then, none of this nightmare would have happened. You know what they say—don't let your emotions rule you, it only burns you and everyone else down. Just let her out. I know your parents have been riding you hard about this too. It's just not worth it. Harrell Judson is married now. He and Louisa are actually doing fine."
Luther crushed his cigarette, his tone laced with dark mockery. "Does Sylvie want to know, or does Harrell want to know?"
He looked down, staring at the floor for a long moment before murmuring—
"Neither of them has forgotten the other."
"Making me look like a pathetic, jumping clown."
"Zane, she's perfectly fine. She's receiving medical care."
Zane immediately pressed, "Where is she receiving care? Why don't I bring in a team for a joint consultation?"
Luther fell dead silent.
Zane knew the conversation was officially over.
Over the past three months, it wasn't just him; every single person who gave a damn about Hilda had tried to intervene. That idiot kid of Colin Sutton's had even stormed Aegis Group with a knife, only to end up thrown in a holding cell before Colin finally hauled him out.
Even though he knew it was futile, Zane couldn't swallow his disgust. "You've got the world by the throat right now, nobody can touch you. But Luther, you need to accumulate some good karma. Hilda is your wife. You share three kids. You had her mother moved back to Alpha City, yet you won't let the kids see their mother, and you won't let her mother see her daughter? What exactly is the endgame here? Do you actually want to make yourself public enemy number one? I'm just telling you, you're going to regret this."
Luther stubbed out his cigarette and turned to leave.
Just as he slid the heavy glass door open.
His private cell phone rang.
He glanced down. It was an unknown number.
Luther assumed it was just another woman from his social circles who had dug up his private line.
