The luxury car glided smoothly out of the Silverlake Villa estate.
Joyce was still lost in her thoughts.
A sleek smartphone was suddenly tossed into her lap.
Luther kept his eyes on the road, casually steering with one hand. "Input your address."
"Huh?"
Joyce let out a soft "Oh" and typed her location into the navigation app.
She and her brother had recently moved.
They were now living in an exquisite garden villa.
She had looked up the property values and was horrified by the astronomical prices, but Damien assured her that his new salary easily covered the mortgage. He even promised they'd have plenty left over to give her and Jocelyn an incredibly comfortable life. Over the past few days, he had gone completely overboard, buying her and Jocelyn piles of new clothes, filling her walk-in closet, and casually purchasing four or five absurdly expensive designer bags.
She felt it was entirely too extravagant.
She had wanted to return them, but her brother had already ripped the tags off every single item.
Joyce desperately wanted to help ease his financial burden.
That extra $24,000 a month meant everything to her.
If she kept at it, she could make close to $300,000 in a year.
Taking a billionaire's money was a no-brainer.
Distracted by her financial mental math, she typed in the address and placed the phone on the center console. The car rolled to a stop at a red light. The man shot the screen a sideways glance before speaking softly. "Add my number. Put yourself in my contacts."
"Ah..."
Joyce froze, entirely thrown off guard.
*Is this how it works?*
*Aren't billionaire CEOs notoriously secretive about their personal contact info?*
Luther tapped a cigarette out of its sleek case and held it between his lips, though he made no move to light it. His voice rumbled deep in his throat, rich and incredibly seductive. "You're Annie's teacher. There will inevitably be times when I need to reach out to you regarding her. Isn't it perfectly normal to exchange numbers? Or does Ms. Croix assume that contacting a male parent is inherently inappropriate? Are you really that casual?"
Women rarely handle being dared well.
Joyce silently added her number to his contacts and handed the phone back.
This time, he took it directly from her.
The moment their fingertips brushed, an electric shock seemingly sparked between them.
Joyce retracted her hand instantly.
He let out a low, breathless chuckle and studied the address intently.
After that, he didn't push her any further. Instead, he smoothly pivoted to casual conversation, his tone completely relaxed. "That little girl of your brother's. Are you the one raising her?"
Without the heavy layers of flirtation, he was actually quite easy to talk to.
Joyce answered softly, "My brother hired a nanny to help out, but I spend all my time with Jocelyn after work. She's incredibly sweet. When she smiles, she shows off this perfect row of tiny white teeth."
Her voice was light and brimming with genuine affection.
She didn't harbor a single doubt about her own identity.
And she certainly had no inkling that she had ever given birth.
