Eleanor left first.
In the end, Luther paid for the dress.
Once they got in the car, the man pulled a bank card out of the console compartment and tossed it to Hilda, his tone utterly indifferent. "My parents feel like I'm being too harsh on you. This is my supplementary card. Use this from now on."
Hilda refused to take it—
"I don't mean anything by it."
"Secondly, they give me two million a month for living expenses, and I'm going to save it for Annie's future, to raise her."
...
The implication behind those words was that Annie was a child of the Sanford family.
But Luther didn't pick up on that.
He stared at Hilda. "Suit yourself."
The car started and drove toward the apartment.
Hilda felt that something was off about Luther.
—Shouldn't he be heading back to the office?
As if knowing exactly what she was thinking, Luther drove with one hand on the steering wheel, his voice dropping even colder. "I canceled my schedule."
Hilda's heart skipped a beat.
She understood exactly what that supplementary card meant.
And that set of jewelry Luther had just put on her wouldn't come for free.
Sure enough, the moment they entered the apartment, Luther gave her no room to resist. He carried her straight into the master bedroom, yanked all the curtains shut, and left the lights off. The entire room was plunged into a heavy darkness. Her instincts screamed at her to run, but he threw her against the edge of the bed and pinned her down securely with one hand.
The man stared down at her from above.
A trace of bloodlust flickered in his eyes.
Along with a struggle he couldn't even understand himself.
He gently unbuckled his belt with one hand.
Leaning down slowly, he hovered right next to her sensitive ear and murmured in a low voice, "You liked me first."
Hilda struggled—
Luther was truly sick in the head.
He brought her here just to satisfy his physical urges. If he really wanted it that badly, Jolie was more than willing to satisfy him. Why torture her? When he finally rolled her over, a tear stained the corner of her eye. She was so tormented she couldn't even speak, sobbing in little hiccups, almost broken by him.
It was Luther who carried her to get cleaned up.
She was covered in bruises.
He must have been incredibly repressed.
Because of the mental block in his heart, he tortured her relentlessly in bed. Hilda felt that if they went at it a few more times like this, she would definitely end up sick. Worse yet, little Annie was still staying at the Sanford estate. It was Eleanor's way of being considerate, creating a chance for the young couple to have some alone time.
Dusk fell.
The sky turned a deep blue, tinged with a hint of purple.
Hilda sat in her bathrobe in front of the vanity, slowly applying her skincare. Her body was bruised black and blue everywhere. Luther had played quite rough, making it feel almost like an assault.
There was a knock on the apartment door.
Lori, the secretary, had brought dinner.
Seeing Luther's damp hair, his unbuttoned gray shirt, and a few faint scratch marks on his neck, she couldn't help but sigh inwardly: Hilda must be having a rough time.
Luther gave a brief nod and shut the door.
He walked to the bedroom doorway and called Hilda to eat.
Hilda's entire body felt like jelly.
There was no way she could paint tonight.
She decided to just take the night off and rest.
She didn't eat much. She had always been slender, but curved beautifully in all the right places.
Luther finished eating first. Leaning back in his chair, he quietly watched her—
Hilda genuinely felt that something was wrong with him.
A deeply tender gesture.
Hilda froze slightly. The man's hand slipped beneath her collar as he lowered his head and kissed her. "Watch TV with me for a bit."
She couldn't refuse.
She had no choice but to lean against his chest.
She thought Luther was going to torture her again, but surprisingly, he actually just watched TV—right up until she couldn't keep her eyes open and fell asleep resting on his shoulder.
Luther lowered his head, staring at the woman in his arms.
She was so soft.
She really didn't look much different from how she did a few years ago.
But his strongest memory was of her that day at the main estate.
Standing beneath the crystal chandelier, looking utterly radiant. He felt like he had seen that exact scene somewhere before.
Was it on the cruise ship that year?
But his memory clearly told him it was Jolie who had saved him.
His memories only held Jolie.
...
What troubled him was that he was clearly in love with Jolie, yet he desperately craved Hilda's body. The moment he saw her, his masculine desires surged involuntarily. He constantly, desperately wanted to sleep with her.
Even knowing she had had a child with another man.
He still couldn't resist touching her.
Watching her tremble and lose control in his arms.
It gave him an indescribable sense of satisfaction.
—Actually, it wasn't enough. He just needed to wait a little longer.
Maybe if he played with her a few more times, he wouldn't crave it so intensely anymore, and everything could go back to normal.
