There was no heavy drinking at the gala.

And it wrapped up fairly early.

Just as they were preparing to leave, Hilda went to the restroom.

Luther waited for her in the hallway.

Employees passing through the corridor politely said their goodbyes to him, all secretly relieved they didn't have to drink tonight.

Luther merely gave polite, reserved nods.

"Luther."

A familiar female voice called out from behind.

Luther turned to see Jolie.

She was staring at him with deep resentment, her eyes locked on the woman's coat draped over his arm. It was Hilda's coat, and he was carrying it so naturally. Did he truly view Hilda as his beloved partner now? Even when they were at their best, he had never been this attentive. Whether in public or private, she was always forced to call him 'Mr. Sanford.' Even a simple hug was something she had to beg for.

How could she not be full of hatred?

They had been together for years.

And Hilda had just swooped in and taken the prize using a child.

"Luther, you never held my coat for me."

Luther's gaze was cold. "Ms. Lovell, remember your place."

The employees passing by in the hallway.

Were already staring.

Jolie's lips trembled. Suddenly, she didn't want to hold back anymore. She wanted to gamble it all. The moment she saw Hilda appear at the end of the hall, she rushed forward like a madwoman and threw her arms around Luther, completely losing her composure. "Luther, I don't want to hide anymore. Why should I? I'm the one you love."

The passing employees felt like they were cursed.

What kind of terrible karma had they accrued?

—Because Mrs. Sanford was standing right across from them.

The crowd quickly scurried back toward the banquet hall.

No one dared to stick around for this drama.

Jolie had never felt such crushing defeat. She had always been the golden child. Whether back in Jadeport City or here at Aegis Group, she was always better than Hilda. But now, Luther was humiliating her in public... How was she supposed to endure this?

Lori was speechless.

She did not like Jolie.

Who would like a woman who knowingly played the mistress?

But she was Luther's right hand, and for the sake of her boss's domestic peace, she offered one final piece of advice: "Ms. Lovell, quit while you're ahead. Given your past history with Mr. Sanford, your future at the company is secure. Becoming a VP isn't out of the question. Why obsess over a relationship? No matter how charismatic Mr. Sanford is, he is a married man."

Jolie sneered. "A VP salary is 10 million a year at best. What is Mrs. Sanford worth?"

Lori didn't say another word.

She knew exactly how Jolie would end up.

Her mind was too twisted.

—And she was far too greedy.

Lori worked closely with Luther. While her boss was hard to read, he clearly didn't hate his current married life. A man who practically rushes home the second work ends doesn't hate his wife. The only people blinded to reality were Ms. Lovell—and perhaps Mr. Sanford himself.
