She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 135

A couple of days later, Victoria got wind of the wealthy suitors lining up at the Fairchild estate, and she immediately tracked Lyra down.

Lyra had been working at Fairchild Holdings when Victoria called, insisting they meet at a high-end cafe nearby.

Victoria grasped Lyra's hands affectionately. "Lyra, you with Caspian, and Rowan with Jasmine... it really is for the best. I feel like I've gained two daughters. I suppose this is the perk of having boys! You have no idea how jealous I used to be of your mother for having both a son and a daughter, but now I have the absolute best of both worlds."

Victoria was incredibly relieved that Lyra hadn't caused a massive scandal over Rowan and Jasmine. Her quiet, graceful exit was exactly what the Jamesons needed.

Now that the dust had settled, she fully expected Lyra to remain a compliant, silent pawn.

The only reason Alistair had dropped his fury over the broken engagement was because he believed Lyra was dating Caspian. She couldn't have Lyra suddenly dating men from rival families—Alistair would fly into another apocalyptic rage.

"Charles even mentioned how much you've matured. You've become so sensible..." Victoria continued smoothly.

Lyra's expression remained indifferent. She knew perfectly well that Charles had been the first to welcome Jasmine into their inner circle.

Jasmine was the director of a major philanthropic fund in California, with a glittering reputation across both domestic and international charity circuits. The elite socialites in Victoria's country club practically worshipped Jasmine for her flawless blend of beauty, Ivy League pedigree, and endless charity work.

After hearing the endless praise, any reservations Victoria had completely vanished.

What more could she possibly want in a daughter-in-law?

"I heard you and Jasmine used to be close friends. She's so kind and gentle—I'm sure you two will get along beautifully."

Lyra offered a faint, empty smile, opting not to reply.

She discreetly slipped her hands free, smoothly picking up her coffee cup to take a slow sip.

That had to be the most hysterical joke she had heard all year.

Victoria wasn't stupid—she likely suspected that Lyra and Caspian were just putting on a show. But to protect her golden child, Rowan, she was determined to lock Lyra into this fake relationship.

"Victoria... I completely understand your intentions."

Her entire focus needed to remain on protecting the Fairchild legacy. Everything else was a distraction.

The summit was scheduled for two o'clock. At one-thirty, Lyra touched up her makeup, timed the drive perfectly, and headed out.

She soon arrived at the massive municipal convention center.

Walking into the sprawling conference hall, she instantly spotted the Fairchild Holdings placard sitting directly next to the Jameson Group's seat. Without missing a beat, Lyra walked over and swiftly swapped her name card with the Chavez Corporation's.

There was absolutely no way she was sitting next to Rowan.

She thought she had been lightning-fast, but Rowan had just stepped through the double doors and caught the entire exchange.

He simply arched a brow and took his seat in total silence.

A few executives walked by and greeted him, to which Rowan offered nothing more than a cool, detached nod.
