She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 138

Caspian immediately flashed him a grateful thumbs-up.

Jasmine watched the exchange with a soft gaze. She knew how much Rowan cared for his adopted brother, and she was more than ready to extend that same affection to him, silently vowing to treat Caspian just like her own brother, Finn.

Victoria pushed the door open just then, smiling as she called them down for some fresh fruit.

After delivering the message, Victoria affectionately looped her arm through Jasmine's and led the way out of the room.

Rowan cast one last, long look at the open drawer before turning on his heel to follow them.

...

Lyra arrived home and kicked off her shoes, acting as if nothing had happened. She didn't want to stress her parents out or let such a trivial incident disrupt the peace of their household.

The very next day, Caleb and his wife finally returned home, fresh from their honeymoon.

Lyra took it upon herself to cook dinner. The pampered heiress, who rarely lifted a finger in the kitchen, whipped up several impressive dishes. Martha stared in utter disbelief, entirely bewildered as to when Lyra had learned how to cook.

Delilah watched her daughter expertly flipping pans and sautéing vegetables, looking equally stunned.

When Caleb and his wife walked through the door, Lyra was just finishing up the final dish, seared scallops. The moment Caleb heard his little sister was manning the stove, the color drained from his face.

He pointed an accusing finger at Lyra. "Are you possessed? Who are you? Whose soul took over your body, because you are definitely not my sister! She doesn't know the first thing about cooking!"

Lyra shot him a withering look. "When you were a kid, you tried stealing bird eggs, ended up messing with a protected species, and got dragged to the police station. And when Mom and Dad were working late, you insisted on making dinner and literally set the kitchen on fire. Do you want me to list more of your humiliating secrets?"

Caleb immediately offered an awkward, apologetic laugh. "My bad, my bad. You've just changed so much, it honestly freaked me out a little."

Kayla handed out carefully chosen souvenirs for everyone in the house. Once the gifts were distributed, she eagerly mentioned that she wanted to go catch up with her girlfriends.

Delilah didn't want her carrying so many shopping bags on her own, so she had the family chauffeur drive her.

The newlyweds were planning to stay at their private downtown penthouse for a while, so Delilah and Martha spent the entire afternoon heading over there to make sure everything was perfectly arranged.

With her ankle still healing, Lyra had zero desire to move. She simply curled up on the plush sofa in her bedroom with a good book. The house was utterly silent, save for the soft rustle of turning pages. She soaked in the rare moment of total peace and tranquility.

Half an hour later, a faint, rustling sound broke the silence.

Lyra glanced up from her book, her brow furrowing in confusion. Slipping her bare feet onto the thick carpet, she padded quietly toward the door and twisted the handle.

Standing out there in the hallway, bathed in the soft overhead light, was Lucas.
