She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 214

As they chatted, a few older women from the neighboring suites popped their heads in. "Delilah, is this your daughter? My goodness, she's absolutely stunning, and so devoted to you!"

Delilah beamed with pride. "She's always looking out for me."

"Well, you make sure you get some rest and recover quickly so you can go home and enjoy life. You've raised such incredibly successful kids."

Lyra watched the lively exchange with a warm smile. If she wasn't so paranoid about the Ford family showing up to cause trouble at the retreat, she would have loved to let her mother enjoy this peaceful social life a bit longer. But she simply couldn't afford to take that risk.

"I'm going to have someone pack an overnight bag for me," Lyra said. "I want to sleep here with you tonight."

"No, don't be silly. You're exhausted and need a proper bed," Delilah protested gently. "Go home after dinner. Caleb already said he's staying over tonight."

"Alright, then I'll claim tomorrow night," Lyra compromised.

By the time Lyra arrived back at the estate, Caleb had just walked in from a dinner meeting. He was already directing Liam to pack his overnight bag for the retreat.

Caleb had been drowning in work lately. Whenever he managed to visit their mother, she was usually already asleep, forcing him to rely on the staff for updates. When Kayla had called him in a panic earlier that day about Delilah's sudden breakdown, his heart had stopped. Thank god the episode hadn't lasted long.

"How did Mom eat tonight?" he asked Lyra.

"Pretty well. Definitely more than yesterday," she replied.

"She seems to be in much better spirits, too," Lyra added brightly.

The tension drained from Caleb's shoulders. "Thank God for you and Kayla. If I had to juggle all of this on my own, I'd lose my mind."

Before their father's death, Caleb had lived a relatively charmed, smooth-sailing life. Now, he was thrust into the deep end, handling grueling negotiations, constant networking dinners, and the crushing weight of the company's future. Every single day was a mad scramble.

He shifted his gaze to his younger sister, his tone softening with concern. "Mom laid into me earlier. She said I haven't been looking out for you enough. If you're dealing with anything heavy, don't bottle it up. Talk to us. If I'm not around, talk to Kayla."

When she got no response, Martha turned around. Lyra was clinging to the doorframe, peeking stealthily into the living room.

"What's going on?" Martha asked curiously, moving up right behind her to follow her line of sight. Suddenly, a delighted squeal echoed from the living room, making Martha jump with a startled gasp. They watched in awe as Caleb scooped Kayla up into his arms, spinning her around the room in pure, unadulterated joy.

"What on earth got into him?" Martha murmured, realizing it had been ages since she had seen Caleb this ecstatic.

Tears of happiness pricked Lyra's eyes. "Kayla is pregnant..."

In her past life, by the time Kayla had shared this news, the company was already teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Back then, Caleb's smile had been overshadowed by deep, crushing anxiety. He hadn't looked even a fraction this joyful.

Things were different this time. They had to be.

She had finally steered her family onto a better path.
