The resort was nestled deep in the mountains, miles away from the chaos of the city. Rolling hills were blanketed in vibrant purple lavender, and the crisp air was thick with a soothing, floral scent.
Upon arriving, they discovered a few other men and women staying at the resort. They were distant acquaintances, tied through a few convoluted family connections—relatives of the Ziegler family.
Lyra didn't actually know them, only vaguely recognizing their names. The other group, however, was well aware of who Lyra, Maddie, and Leo were. After exchanging polite greetings, they agreed to meet up the next day to explore the fields together.
The following morning, Lyra, Maddie, and Leo joined the group for a cable car ride, spending the entire morning taking in the breathtaking sea of flowers. By the afternoon, a light drizzle started, forcing them to head back to the resort.
After eating lunch in the dining room, the three of them decided to stay indoors due to the rain. Spotting a shelf full of comic books in the lobby, Lyra randomly pulled one out.
Reading comics and binge-watching shows felt like a lifetime ago for her, but once she started flipping the pages, she couldn't put it down. Even with the rain, Zachary Ziegler's relatives insisted on heading back out to the fields.
They waved goodbye as they left.
For a while, the resort was quiet, leaving only Lyra, Maddie, Leo, and the married couple who owned the place.
Leo had claimed a corner of the sofa, his mouth hanging slightly open as he dozed off.
Lyra and Maddie were munching on potato chips, reading the comic and leaning in to whisper about the plot.
When Rowan and Jasmine walked into the resort, the first thing they saw was Lyra sitting cross-legged on the sofa, a half-eaten chip clamped between her lips, giggling uncontrollably.
Seeing them, Jasmine froze, her eyes darting to Rowan. She saw him staring directly at Lyra, his dark, predatory gaze practically vibrating with possessive intensity.
Startled, Jasmine wanted to shatter the bizarre, suffocating tension, so she let out a deliberate cough.
Lyra looked over. The second she saw who was standing at the door, her face drained of color. She sprang off the couch like she'd been launched, practically landing on Maddie.
