There was no way Jasmine was leaving. Overwhelmed by desperation and a crushing sense of loss, she threw all her dignity out the window and lunged forward, wrapping her arms tightly around Rowan. Pressing her tear-stained cheek against his suit, she let out muffled, broken sobs, consumed by a love she couldn't bear to let go.
"Rowan, I don't want to go... I want to stay here tonight."
Wesley was utterly shocked. Jasmine had always been so aloof and dignified. He had never seen her weeping like this, let alone throwing herself at a man.
Rowan held his arms out rigidly, refusing to embrace her, and shot his assistant another sharp look.
Wesley hurried over, not daring to waste a second. He awkwardly tapped the arm Jasmine had wrapped tightly around his boss's waist. "Miss Ford, please."
Completely drained and heartbroken, Jasmine let go. She forced a stubborn mask onto her face, calmly wiping away her tears. "Sorry to intrude."
Wesley escorted Jasmine off the Blackwood Manor grounds.
Back at the Ford residence, Tabitha was thrilled to spot Rowan's car dropping her daughter off from the second-floor window.
She hurried downstairs, eager to push the topic of marriage.
"You and Rowan have been talking about marriage forever. It's time to make it official. Look at Caleb; he already has kids."
"The longer you drag this out, the riskier it gets. If you don't lock him down, someone else will steal him."
Only Grandma Ford knew about the breakup. Still in a foul mood, Jasmine snapped back, "If that happens, there's nothing I can do about it! What, am I supposed to force him to marry me at gunpoint?"
Tabitha was stunned. She hadn't realized her daughter had so little sway over Rowan!
Back in her room, Jasmine thought about the woman hiding in the shadows, gloating and parading her victory.
A towering wave of hatred crashed over Jasmine, bringing a sharp, agonizing sting to a heart that had been ground down into numbness over the past few days.
