Chapter 44
She knew exactly who Rowan had bought those pieces for.
In her past life, Jasmine had taken everything from her.
Now, the cycle was repeating itself.
But it didn’t matter. She had much more important things to focus on right now.
“Lyra-”
Her father’s voice called out from the hallway.
“Alright, that’s all for now. Keep up the good work. I’m signing off.” Lyra promptly ended the video call.
Arthur thought it was strange that Lyra was spending the holidays cooped up at home. She hadn’t gone out for Christmas, and now she was staying in for the New Year.
She used to love the holidays, constantly going out with friends or practically living at Rowan’s place.
But lately, whenever he was home, Lyra was there too. He hadn’t seen her go out once.
Arthur couldn’t shake the feeling that his daughter had changed.
“Dad,” Lyra stood up with a bright smile as Arthur walked in. “Are you all packed for the trip?”
“Your mother has everything ready,” Arthur said. “Why don’t you come with us? We can still grab a ticket.”
“Next time, Dad.”
Lyra was about to link her arm through his when Arthur’s phone suddenly rang.
He patted her shoulder and stepped into his study to take the call.
By dinner time, Caleb had also returned home. “Did you post that update on the company feed?”
“Yeah.”
“Who exactly are we declaring war on?”
Caleb was the one who usually managed the company’s social media accounts.
Caleb quickly shot Lyra a warning look and tried to defuse the tension. “Lyra, stop messing around.”
Lyra sighed inwardly. “I was just joking, Dad. Don’t be mad.”
She had no intention of paying a single dime of their severance.
Arthur remained silent.
Lyra already knew it was a dead end with her father. She suspected that even if she gathered all the concrete evidence against those corrupt veteran employees, her father would only give them a slap on the wrist, never actually firing them.
“Alright, alright, let’s just eat,” Delilah quickly stepped in. “Caleb, you’re dropping us off at the airport after dinner, right?”
“Yeah, I’ve got it covered,” Caleb replied.
Delilah was as excited as a kid. She had been looking forward to this trip with her husband. In the past, Arthur was always too busy, leaving her to vacation with the other socialite wives. Now that her children were grown and fully supportive of their parents getting away, she couldn’t stop smiling.
That afternoon, Caleb dropped his parents off for their flight to Sydney.
With them gone, Lyra began counting down the days until the post-holiday business rush.
There were five days left until the official return to work.
