Charles suddenly recalled the times he had asked about the land, only to be met with vague, evasive answers every single time. He had secretly muttered to himself before, thinking his eldest son's competence was slipping if he couldn't even find out who was negotiating the land deal with the old lady. It turned out Rowan had known it was Lyra all along; he was just deliberately hiding it.
When Victoria and Vivienne returned from shopping, they immediately noticed the tense atmosphere in the house. It seemed the father and son had gotten into a fight.
Rowan's face was dark as he gave them a curt greeting, brushing past them and heading straight out the door.
A moment later, the low roar of an engine echoed through the driveway as Rowan sped off.
"What on earth happened?"
Vivienne watched his tall figure disappear, leaving Victoria just as bewildered.
She called a maid over to ask what had happened.
The maid had no idea; there hadn't been anyone on the second floor at the time.
Victoria set her shopping bags down and turned to Vivienne. "Take a seat. I'll go check."
It had been ages since the father and son had argued.
Victoria quickly made her way up to the second floor. Stepping into the study, she found her husband looking livid, his fury still practically rolling off him.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Charles's anger was hard to swallow, but he certainly couldn't bring himself to speak of such a disgraceful matter.
"Is it about the company?"
Victoria tried to comfort him. "Since your father handed full control of the Group over to him, you really shouldn't stress yourself over it anymore."
Charles rapped his knuckles hard against the edge of the mahogany desk. "Arrange for him to marry Sylvia immediately," he snapped.
"Otherwise, he's going to drag us into a mess of trouble."
Victoria had no idea what "trouble" he was referring to. Assuming her husband just wanted a woman to keep their eldest son in check and tame his rebellious nature, she let out a soft laugh. "You think I don't want to? But it's not like he ever listens."
Charles clenched his fists.
Right, he wouldn't listen.
But were they just supposed to let him continue this downward spiral, stealing his younger brother's girlfriend and ruining the Jameson family's reputation?
