Rowan followed them into the Fairchild house.
Lyra walked in empty-handed, having weaponized both cups of coffee against Rowan.
When she saw Kayla, she offered an apologetic look. "Kayla, I'm so sorry. I accidentally dropped the coffee."
"Oh, don't worry about it! It's my fault for asking you to grab coffee in this freezing weather," Kayla said, gently brushing the snow off Lyra's puffer jacket. She blinked in surprise as Rowan walked in behind her.
Rowan was already unbuttoning his coat. The dark coffee stain had bled deep into the light gray wool, making it impossible to ignore.
"Mr. Jameson had an accident with his coat," Martha quickly explained.
Kayla immediately reached for it. "Washing and drying this will take a bit of time. Please, have a seat, Mr. Jameson."
"I appreciate it." Rowan glanced at Lyra. She was busy taking off her own jacket, completely ignoring him. The second she was out of her outerwear, she headed straight upstairs.
She didn't spare him a single glance.
"Your cards, Mr. Jameson," Kayla said, thoughtfully returning his belongings from the pockets before taking the coat away.
"Thank you."
"Please, make yourself at home."
Rowan waited downstairs for a short while. Delilah eventually came out to greet him, warmly insisting he stay for dinner before heading toward the kitchen to check on Martha and the staff.
Not one to sit aimlessly in the living room, Rowan wandered up to the second floor and found Lyra in the nursery. She was leaning over a crib, gently poking the soft cheeks of one of the newborn twins.
Leaning against the doorframe, Rowan let out a dry sigh. "You won't wash my clothes, and instead make Kayla do your dirty work?"
Lyra didn't even look up. Her eyes remained glued to the baby. "It's just getting tossed in a washing machine. Anyone can press a button."
Rowan stepped slowly into the room. "Technically, you should be the one pressing it."
Lyra didn't bother replying. As she scooped up her soft, chubby nephew, her expression melted into a tender smile.
The maternity nurse standing nearby couldn't stop staring at Rowan, utterly captivated. She had never seen a man this handsome in her life.
