She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 495

Even after Rowan walked out, the crushing tension in the dining room refused to dissipate.

Caleb was the first to break the silence, his tone laced with exasperation. "Mom, you were way too harsh just now."

Kayla softly chimed in, looking at Delilah. "Mom, what you said... you really didn't leave him any room to save face."

"Being dressed down in front of a room full of people is probably a first for him," Caleb added. "That was downright humiliating."

Delilah frowned. She knew she had been harsh, but she had her reasons. Rumors were already circulating that the Jameson and Wynter families were planning to unite. If she let Lyra stay tangled up with Rowan, her daughter would inevitably become the target of vicious gossip. She had to cut this off at the roots.

Kayla suddenly looked across the table. "Lyra, what do you think?"

Every pair of eyes zeroed in on her, including her mother's.

Lyra had honestly felt a flash of secondhand embarrassment for Rowan during her mother's speech. But then again, he was the one who had shamelessly invited himself over. He brought this on himself.

"I agree with Mom," Lyra said quietly.

Hearing her daughter's response, Delilah secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

What Delilah didn't know was the deep undercurrent of anxiety beneath Lyra's words. Rowan was the kind of man who struck back twice as hard the moment he was cornered. She knew this wouldn't just end here.

Before long, Rowan returned.

His face betrayed no anger; his expression was completely unreadable as he sat back down.

"I assume your concerns about my suitability for Lyra stem from the rumors regarding my family and the Wynters. I can explain that—"

"There's no need. Wynters or no Wynters, my stance remains the same," Delilah cut him off coldly. "There is no future between the two of you."

Rowan froze for a fraction of a second.
